As the title says, after some advice on refitting the lower mounting points of the strut to the hub.
Have done this a few times before and it is a pig of a job! Want to know if there are any tips that people have to make it easier. Somehow it is a two person job fighting with it, and the "brute...
Ok.....so "progress" is the wrong word. Car is still not working and it is in a worse state than when I satrted to change the front wheel bearing.
Got the new bearing pressed in, brilliant!! Came to fit the hub and had the usual fight when putting the lower suspension mounts to the hub. Got...
Need a front driver's side hub for the Clio. It is a Ph1 172. Am I right in saying that the Ph2 1*2 non cup ones are the same??
If anyone has one for sale with the ABS sensor and a good bearing let me know
Turns out the press that wasn't man enough has bent the calliper mount on the hub and now the calliper wont go back on ffs. This job is just going from bad to worse!! IT WAS SO CLOSE!!! So currently ballin' around in my Step Dad's Mazda MX5 track toy and by god it is loud! It makes more of a...
Ok update on the front wheel bearing......it still isn't changed!
Issues with me being such a pathetic man and not being strong enough to undo two bolts (in my defence it did end up with two people undoing them!) and then the hydraulic press wasn't beef enough. Managed to source a second press...
I'm in Gloucester at my parents, thanks for the offer though! I only work on my car there as I have help and access to more tools.
Help did arrive when my step dad came home, even he struggled to get them off.
So.....all off the car. Go to use the press and it isn't man enough! So convince a...
It was going all so well.......
Couldn't get the disc off. Doesn't matter, just take that attached to the hub. ABS sensor retaining bolt knakard, drilling it didn't even work, so I simply unplugged it from further up the line. So have 20mins to get everything off the car and take it to my step...
I've got a 5ft steel tube to add more leverage for the hub nut, then a torque wrench to do it up with
Thanks for the advice on the track rod end as I replaced them yesterday! I hit the old ones where you said not to (but they were screwed anyway) and was going to blindly do the same today.
I...
Sweet, thanks for that. I did manage to find something after a while of searching!
Just a little worried as I have always had someone watching over me when doing car work but I am on my own tomorrow to remove this. Not looking forward to the hub nut.......
Need to change the front wheel bearing. I can get hold of a new kit tomorrow and access to a press too, but will have to be tomorrow otherwise I will have to borrow mother's car for the week!
What I am after what needs to be removed from the car so I can take it to my step dads work to use the...
Track rod ends changed. Really simple job to do. The old ones were awful and had so much play in them!
However there is still a grumbling noise. So it is time to change the front wheel bearing tomorrow
I really need to take more progress photos during tinkering!!
Replaced both track rod ends. Step dad says they were the worst he has ever seen. Tbh they were shocking!!! However car is still making a horrible noise, probably the front wheel bearing
I hear you say Focus ST Orange (actually Ford Electric Orange). Don't need a photoshop, just look at mine!
Yep, it is ST Orange. However they need doing again as break dust has sort of eaten them away. Ideally need >2 spray cans per wheel. Next time, of if you want to do it I would say powder...
My track rod ends are...ummm.....beyond useable condition (without using any faul language!).
The end bit circled on both sides have the play in, can move the wheel a good inch without moving the steering wheels. I am hoping this is the cause of the grumbling noise otherwise it is the wheel...
Is there a grumbling noise? My car is making an awful grumbling noise but that could be because my track rod ends are fubar'd, it is a job for the weekend. I wondered why it was a bit funny sometimes. Had about 5deg of play in both front wheels.
I also need to have a look at the rear shocks as...
Mine has got to a point where it needs a little bit of money spending on it this summer:
* Coolant flush
* Break fluid flush - maybe some braided lines
* Possible new front discs and pads to go with the rears I have just put on.
* Think the rear suspension is going - I see it as an excuse for...
I have got a bit of a knocking noise coming from the rear left corner. I know I have a rattling exhasut but this is a little different, or could it be an exhaust still?
Started the other weelk when I changed the rear discs and pads. I have put the anti-rattling retaining springs to the pads...
Won't the car need waxing after if you have removed all of the crap from it?
And is it the G3 detailing spray used as a lubricant? Does this give better results or just soapy water as @LiquidYellDan has just said do the same job?
It makes such a difference. I think it's all about the small details that can make a car, like the head light condition and back to black on the trim.
Shame my bumper needs a re-paint
Mine has similar problems, like a hesitation when accelerating from low revs in 4th. I had a dodgy connection on on of my plugs. Also happened to my stepdad when he owned the car before me and he changed an injector as that was faulty.
So try the connections to the plugs and the injectors.
If I could get a bath and a boot lid from a Triumph 2000 (not at the same time though) in my old Fiat Cinquecento then I would thought a Clio boot will take a bonnet!!
