Nah, it's the dogbone mount. Ignore it, it's not a problem. All cars do it to some degree- it's the engine rocking on it's mounts as you come on and off the power.

Try giving it a bit more stick. That spring is responsible for centering the gearstick. MIght just be a bit sticky?

PMSL. They would have probably replaced them and stuck the old set on ebay straight away! CS- saving people monies since the dawn of time.

Won't be the linkage. Maybe the spring on the selector arm becoming softer? That helps locate the stick between 3rd and 4th..

Only proper way to sort orange peel is a wetsand. Initial clarity might improve if you attack it with a rotary though..

I know on the 106 Rallye Register they've had Quaife design and build a quick rack and pinion that's meant to be perfect. Maybe worth a read? Manual rack with the benefit of catching any mishaps easier!

At a guess, i'd say: Engine (we have one that's just had belts done, new PAS pump (that cost £175 alone from Renault!) - £600 delivered. Fuel - £650 (based on using Nick's BMW M3 and a round trip of approx 3k miles with tools, engine crane etc on board.) Ferry - £75? (Dover to Calais) Either...
