That's
@EVOgone
I don't think there is a project thread as such, but I have seen a few posts about the car. It's a converted Cup racer, but I think it has a modified F7R engine. Steve's a nice guy and can really pedal.
Lordy that has some rot in it. Fair play for fixing that, many wouldn't have bothered!
Are the Safrane hubs as used on the MK1 Cup cars? Am I right in thinking the 172 used Laguna hubs?
I would really love a MK1. I have a 1/18 model of one of the DIAC Group A 16S rally cars, and it just makes...
Ha, thanks, appreciate the kind comments. She gets used and abused. No repair yet, had some quotes but waiting for my mate to pay me the money, as he did it lol.
She might get chopped in for a Ph.1 if I can find a nice one, or I might just fit some new wheels and try to find some more gee gee's!
I bought these after a track day, not sure if they would be allowed? Car is nothing exciting, but I like the spray in some of the pics lol. Hi-res available of course.
And phone pics are awesome. I can photoshop out the wheel corosion if needed...
Moody damage pictures lol
I well remember when magazines and cruises were full of cars like this. Those were the days. Times and fashions change, but the modified car scene was a pretty exciting place back then.
Better than idiotic 13x10" wheels and sticker bombing. at least people put some effort in to it.
I cleaned the outside of my Ford box at the weekend, but I don't think that's on the same level as what you've been doing...
Will be ordering the new gear kit in the next couple of weeks though, so we can talk about sending it your way if you'd still be interested! I need to work out which FD...
Turbocharged MK1/2 Escorts genuinely upset me. They should have a rorty naturally aspirated engine under the bonnet and nothing else.
I visited the Ford Heritage collection today (I love my job), I'm not even going to post pictures, it was too much lol.
I actually said that they might not achieve the same values as some other cars, or the same % increase due to the slightly excessive current values, and that it won't happen within the next ten years, but I think, eventually, there will be some increase in value. The Fords were just random...
In much the same way as an RS1600i was a slightly better version of an XR3? Or that a Mexico was a slightly better version of a 1600 GT? And, as I said, most people, 20 years ago, would have said "Oh, they'll never be worth anything, they're just tarted up base model Escorts" How much is a good...
I think it very much depends on the classic car trend as a whole. I think many of the naysayers here are probably saying exactly the same thing as people would have said about the 5GTT, 205 GTI, Escort RS Turbo etc, and values of those have rocketed.
I think ten years is a bit optimistic, but I...
Depends what you're looking for really, and how much you want to spend.
My Cup is essentially standard apart from some springs and it is still a lot of fun, and I can still use it as a cheap daily. It was £1300 so does all you can expect from it really. Of course, if you want a dedicated track...
The problem is that they are already quite valuable compared to a regular 1*2, so I think the scope for making money is reduced.
If you take the example of the old RS2000 (MK1 and 2), they were trading hands for hundreds around 20 years ago, but are now worth £10-20k, even more potentially, so...
I drive a 172 Cup as a daily. Came from a V70 D5, which couldn't have been more different. Done about 25k in the year I've owned it. It is flawed in so many ways as a daily, and I know I should buy something big, soft and oil-burning. However, whilst it is far from ideal 90% of the time, the...
