pretty common, there's 3 fixes that might be necessary, silicon under bolt heads, re-sealing the breather plate or re-sealing the entire rocker cover. Can normally tell where it's coming from by looking with a bit of experience :)
I could do you something like this that bolts to the rear seatbelt anchorage points Russ
using a rear strut brace to attach a harness isn't a good idea.

drive your car for the love of god. They get better with mileage. Seen countless sub 20k Trophys with rust seized aux belt tensioners through lack of use. Cars aren't meant to be parked
it has been known for the ECU to be at fault and cause this. If it's not the pedal or the TB then it really is most likely to be an ECU fault. Should be able to get a refurbished one from somewhere though
I agree, this is why i say the arguement that ASTs are too stiff on the front it wrong, they're too soft on the rear if anything (the basic road package at least)
I dont really go along with that arguement most of the time. it's a lot more labour to get another engine in, and you're left with a 2nd hand engine. If you rebuild your current head, you have a rebuilt top end that if done right will last longer and run better. On any engine with unknown...

They're not a tight fit in the same way as the standard bush. They will move very easily giving the polybush nothing to locate in, and the metal sleeve will gradually cut into the subframe
