Sorry to hear about your car. Bit hard to stay Renault if you cant have a 16v/Williams or 172/Cup
How about a Pulsar GTi-R or MR2 Turbo (bit hairdressery I know) - both can be had for under £5k and easily tuned to stupid power, and they are quick as f*ck anyway.
Another possibility is what...
Well remembered - thats me. I just dont understand either. I wouldnt purposely make my car lose/struggle against cars it should beat. Im starting to think that I may have a seriously underpowered Friday car - it might explain a lot - its definitely run in now and obviously still not performing...
Doubt it was chipped - driver was blatently a rep in a company car. He wasnt losing me at all, but I couldnt gain on him either. Admittedly it was a fairly short lived race that I wasnt expecting (i.e. Id have been in a better gear had I expected him to floor it), but I still think that a 172...
Sorry for a post like this, but how quick are these things supposed to be? Its not the S3 or the Quattro.
I know they are turbos but I didnt think they were particularly quick?
Not true I dont think. Not all turbo cars have dump valves. Modern ones, yes, but older models didnt get them from the factory.
They have a more useful function than just sounding good! They release pressure from the turbo upon lift off of the throttle (whether it be to the atmosphere with a...
Wow another XR2i 16v owner. I used to have one of those - not that many about. Got too slow for me in the end too............drive a Williams and then youll see how a car is supposed to go around corners. The XR2i 16v handled like a soppy sack of spuds!
Mine started at a little under 1000 miles and is getting slowly louder! Ill wait until its blatent before taking it to Renault.
BTW I thought the 4k rattle was an exhaust rattle - i.e. the centre section. From what you were saying it sounds like an internal seat frame rattle??
I cant hear...
Try the usual suspects who provide reasonable online quotes......eg: Tesco, Egg, Elephant. Usually one of them will provide one of the best quotes I ever receive!
Well, I dont worry about it as much as I did in a turbo, but I still try not to hit the red line after pulling out of my road :D
Im just puzzled as to why the rev limiter was so low
Well, pretty much all Saabs are turbos, so they have very good pull!
Was it newish? The quickest current production Saab estate would be the 9-5 2.3 HOT Aero Estate which does 0-60 in 6.9 and I bet has a hell of a lot more midrange pull than a 172, so it could be that. (the non estate version...
Any 172 owners shed some light on what defines warmed up for the 172?!!
Just took mine out for a little ride and I thought Id warmed it up before taking it for a bypass blast and I caught the rev limiter in 2nd and 3rd at what appeared to be about 6700rpm - thats not even in the red area!
I...
7 cars in 6 years of driving - thats pretty good going!
1st - Astra 1.4 CDi - got bored! - 7 months
2nd - Nova GSi - put in a ditch - 5 months
3rd - AX GT - fell to bits but was great fun! - 1 year
4th - Saxo 1.1i - got very bored very quickly - 4 months of hell and slowness
5th -...
Not all of them. It came in the 105bhp and the 130bhp option and its nigh on impossible to know which one a car has without looking at the engine block. Not that it was even breathtakingly quick in 130bhp form anyway. Only the Fiesta was clear cut - in that the XR2i 1.8 16vs all had the 105bhp...
Civic Type R showroom price was £15995 when I went in looking at them before getting my 172. Plus thats without any of the extras that shouldnt be extras IMO. Its a nice car (really nice), but not worth the money if you ask me.
AFAIK Renaultsport only make 1 version of the 172 and it is the same all through Europe. Only dealer fit items vary, which in the case of the UK would mean a Cat 1 Alarm. Even the CD changer has disappeared from the standard fit list (luckily mine was one of the last to get it!). Some imports...
There was actually a road test at one time that got 7.4 to 60 out of a 19 16v.....personally Id be a bit dubious, but you know how these French cars perform differently every day.
I think the Renault figure is actually 8.3 to 60 (?). Ive been in both Clio 16v and 19 16v and from what I...
22 with 3 years no claims - quoted £1020 fully comp with Tesco, but had to stay with Adrian Flux until my previous policy runs out in July. Turn 23 tomorrow and will have 4 years no claims in July so I did a little test quote with Egg with that info and it came out at £740 fully comp! Cant wait...
Yes, Im talking about speed attained over distance, which is more a measure of acceleration, not top speed.
I really dont think a 172 is as quick as a Scoob......bug eyed or not. Id have to see that to believe it.
And....the point I was making was that if you came out of a WRX into a 172...
Its all relative.....it doesnt feel quick to me because of what I was used to - as in turbochargers hitting you up the backside. Im sure if you went from say, a 1.1 Fiesta to a 172, it would feel like a rocket...........what if you went from an Impreza WRX to a 172 - do you think youd call it...
Youre welcome........glad it helped. Hope you get it all sorted out.....preferably with someone who actually demostrates some level of customer service!!
Quick note to say thanks to the people who advised me to rag the nuts off my 172 after my complaints that it wasnt quick. :)
It has got a lot better since. Still not what I expected, but Im happy for the time being. Its the kind of car that never feels quick, but surprises you with the speeds...
That is really awful.....they are just talking s***.
Dont know if it helps, but Auto Express are very good at sorting out problems for consumers and do it for free as well. It just so happens that I was reading my copy this evening (bored on late shift!) and noticed that this Sunday is their...
8 something is what magazines such as Max Power seem to have listed as the 0-60. Manufacturers is 7.7 to 62 I believe, and as I said, that is deceptive due to the gear change required. Trust me......a Clio 16v would not keep up in a straight line unless modified and still maybe not if it caught...
Spot on Ralphy!
I had a Punto GT before my 172. Against a VTS, I would JUST edge ahead, but couldnt handle anywhere near as well.
They are about 7.5 to 60 and like the Williams, that is misleading in that it requires a change to 3rd just before 60. Like with a VTS they would also move ahead...
;) - true but it does have a 0-60 of 6.2 (Rovers own). Just a shame it handles like a Banana and comes with a flat cap and pipe as standard fit. He did also say that the 172 handled like it was on rails and that Id beat him in a race if any cornering was involved!
