    182 manifold on a 172

cat back, the 172 and 182 are completely different, so you need a specific cat/decat pipe

Aux belt an easy job for average garage?

I like to see what i'm doing ;) I've made my own tool too, which is much better

Aux belt an easy job for average garage?

dont like this method, removed a belt that had been on about 6 weeks recently and i presume this had been done, because the belt was chewed up pretty bad, with chunks missing

cost of cambelt change for 172cup without aircon, roughly?

yes, it's because of the aircon ;) there's less there on a cup aux setup

    What oil 200bhp +

Fuchs Titan is very good stuff. I've used Valvoline very happily for years. I've also run 300bhp+ turbo cars on Comma motorsport very happily
  12. S

cost of cambelt change for 172cup without aircon, roughly?

a cup is different. there's no tensioner and idlers to change, and even the belt alone is cheaper :)

yes, seen good results on the standard inlet (albeit reworked). You cant use them with standard pistons though, you need enlarged cut-outs in the piston crown due to the extra lift at TDC, and they are more suitable to higher compression anyway really. Better is difficult to quantify, 428s and...

    utterly and completely wrong.

I think in both cases they're with ITBs (certainly the car i was citing), which makes the low end drivability far far better anyway if done right

Well, I've not used these ones due to their limited suitability (be pointless fitting them if you're not going to rev the engine, the peak power would be above the limiter) BUT, every set of cams I have fitted that are spec'd as for solids have a different profile to those which are for...

can't do the 551s without solid lifters though, which IIRC are around £800 a set IF you can get them

think we saw 212 at the wheels with 422s
  19. S

cost of cambelt change for 172cup without aircon, roughly?

should be under £300. significantly less work/time than an AC car, and the aux belt is cheaper too

a highly technical and well reasoned arguement. Well done
  21. S

    Cams, Cams, Cams

it says MECH in the spec. Notice how all the lower spec ones say HYDR that's mechanical and hydraulic tappets/lash adjusters
  22. S

    Cams, Cams, Cams

because you need solid lifters to go with them. Also look like they'd be for a very high revving high compression setup

Doing A CamBelt Myself (Any Advice).

it sets the cam position in relation to the piston travel, rather than setting the pulley position. Removes margin for error with differences in block and head height/thickness. It's just basically more accurate

    engine dead....

that happened on the one I pulled apart with the broken valve head. The end of the spark plug had been peened over by the bits hitting it

black smoke is overfueling. Any mods on it?

Uprated fuel pump and return line

as per PM. Never converted as never found any need. The standard system, with just correctly sized injectors (the ones you have IIRC) is quite capable of supplying enough fuel.
  30. S

Uprated fuel pump and return line

as PM, the pump wouldn't change the way the pipes are arranged. 182 doesn't run a return line
