Is your gearbox the original ph1 box? If so you’ll need to find the final drive ratio for the jc5 089 mate. It’s slightly taller than the 129/130 final drive.
Yeah but I had all the biggest bits of the setup like the pump and cooler already in stock, so it made perfect sense in my mind to fit it on the cup. 😂
It was a separate part to strengthen that part of the wishbone from the extra leverage. Worth pointing out though that the cup racers didn’t run the extra castor wishbones like you find on the 172 cup/182’s. The castor was taken car of by offsetting the mounting bushes, so the wishbone sat...
I did indeed do a gearbox oil cooler on my cup. Used the oil drain and fill plugs, BUT the oil drain does then become the closest item to the ground and requires a sump guard to cover and protect it. That’s what I custom made for mine.
I used a thermostatic switch on the gearbox casing to...
Anyone watched this build series? I found it the other day and I’ve watched them all now.
Doesn’t go on for ages, but covers some really well thought through modifications.
I think mine was higher with a new valeo clutch kit when I built the 230 motor tbh, but I seem to recall it did drop a tad lower after a few miles were put on it. You may also find your clutch ratchet isn’t resetting properly. I had to get a bit medieval with mine 😂
Oh it’s far more involved than that buddy! It’s a CS gold thread - trust me you’ll see it and understand! 😂
Yeah sounds like a plan mate, just don’t let it crunch for too long if it does - that’s where catastrophic damage occurs.
Their (BMW) core drivetrain is still RWD, but the higher power cars (F80 M5 for example) are going xdrive. That’s switchable on the F80 M5 though. G30/31 30d’s are all xdrive and not switchable
If all they need are synchros on 3rd and 4th gear, I can sort those out for £280 including parts. It’s extremely rare to see them requiring anything else tbh. That doesn’t cover the cost of removing and refitting the box though. You’d have to bring me the box once it’s out.
Yeah or mt90 if you...
Bleed the clutch when you change the box oil - trust me, it’ll help as that fluid in the clutch circuit will have never been changed since it was filled at the factory! Clutch drag is one of the biggest killers in these gearboxes.
Oh and redline mtl, or redline mt90 is THE best oil for these...
Yes, as with the water pump casting out of the way, you’ll be able to get on the bolts with a pair of vice grips.
Whenever I’ve encountered this issue I’ve just used a small sharp chisel and knocked them round tbh. Even done it this way on sump bolts
I have NEVER seen one of these fail mate, so I would suggest something else has been the cause of this failure. The bolts aren’t high tensile bolts either - just 8.8’s.
When I convert them I use the Renault bolt on plate and bolts mate.
Yeah it certainly sounds like it, but once one had...
