Yeah I'm afraid that the box does indeed need to come apart to fix properly.
If you want it doing, I can sort it while you wait buddy. Drop me a pm if you like.
The gearboxes on the 197's and 200's suffer with synchro ring issues as said above, but renault have now changed the design of them.
I've rebuilt a few TL4 boxes now, and tbh, other than the synchro issue they ain't that bad a box. To put it into perspective, a typical parts cost for the jc5 is...
Well I can do the TL4 boxes mate, and also supply a quaife.
Yeah the selector hub is the expensive item Keith @£120 ish on its own. It's because it's combined with also being used as a reverse gear.
Well you know where I am mate if you want it opening up!
Morning all,
Just a heads up to say that after much aggro, I've managed to get some improved synchro rings sorted out for the jc5's.

172 ph2 crank is the lightest and wankest one. You only have to compare the design...
Cheers gents. Not been on in a few days, so only just got round to replying.
Unsure if the car is staying or going currently, but the akrapovic will most likely be sold regardless now.
@Markmec the parts to fix it are about £70-£80. I can strip and rebuild the box for you as well if you're interested?
Drop me a pm and we can discuss further if you like.
In that case, full stiff rear, half way on the fronts and then dial both ends in to suit. If it's too stiff at the rear and a bit flighty, turn the damper down one click.
