Ok thanks for that. Well i can imagine that a replacement from MM would probably cost alot more than one of your EC1 units. So i think ill have to stick with standard power for a bit longer untill i can afford both the ITB's and the EC1 engine control.
Thanks Icarus, Well its in a Cup racer so i asume its just the renault spec unit.. Do you know if anywhere in the UK would have the renault profile and dongle to be able work on the car? Id rather not have to buy a new ECU if i dont have to.
Maybe it could be sent back to MM to be converted...
Can anyone tell me if the Cup racer ECU (1*2 shape) is remappable. Ive hear they are not but ive looked at the manual for the ECU on the Magneti Marelli site and it say the MF4M ECU that my car has is mappable.
Can anyone clear this up for me?
Like others have said that is fixable. I deffinatly wouldnt break it.
Id get that rear quarter pannel and sill pulled out as much as you can, second hand bootlid and door and axle, new headlight and just straighten up what you can to make it road legal again. Then just save up to get it fixed...
For the people that rally there Clio's, What sort of spring rates and geo do your run/recommend for tarmac rallying on your cars?
I dont know what my spring rates are atm as its what came in the car but i know its far to hard on the front and to soft on the back. Im running 1.5 degree's neg...
Does anyone know if mk2 clio's came with bendix calipers aswell as lucas. ive just got delivery of the brakes for my sisters clio and it came with bloody bendix fitment pads. So im just trying to work out if ive be sent the wrong brakes or ordered the wrong ones.
Cheers
Mike.
Im replacing the clutch on my cup racer while the engine is out and i wondering if a lightened flywheel wheel would be of any real benifit, The standard flywheel doesnt seem to be very heavy anyway.
Does anyone have a experiances of light flywheels on 172's? Do you loose alot of low down torque?
So im probably better off going with the helix then? The Alcon is rather expensive and i dont fancy shelling out a load for something that might blow my bell housing to pieces.
Where would you recomend getting the helix from?
Hi,
Need to replace the clutch on my ex cup racer, Can anyone recomend me a decent race clutch? Mine just had a helix organic fitted as the previous owner didnt like the paddle clutch, So i dont know what it would of had.
Thanks
Mike.
Bedding in does not take 100 miles. To make your pads work correctly you need to get get alot of heat in them so that the pads transfer a layer of material onto the surface of the disc. This is called “burnishing”, Your brakes will not work to 100% of there potential unless you do this. You will...
Well it probably will be dropping but not enough at the moment to instantly notice it. Are you 100% sure the car was warm when you noticed it? It could just built up moisture in the exhaust. Just keep an eye on the levels and how much smoke is coming out, if it gets worse than its most likely...
Well white smoke is usually water entering the combustion chamber wich results in white smoke (steam) coming out of the exhaust. So it is likely that the headgasket has been damaged as a result of overheating.
That doesnt look to good lol. Yeah you need 172 cup rear discs (no abs ring) may aswell get them with the bearings already fitted saves the hassle of doing it yourself.
Think one of mine has gone sticky, going to run a flush through to see if that helps. But if not it'll need changing. Im 99% sure it isn't the dephaser puley as it does it from cold and the tap frequency is alot slower than the dephaser videos.
Are the ones from ebay any good? There going in...
Probably going to need to swap the tappets out on my 172, Was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get them from before i go buy them form Renault. I doubt Renault make the tappets them selves, so if i can get them from the OE manufacturer for less then that would be great.
Thanks
Mike
Decent set of coilovers with a Geo setup, Limited slip diff, and a set of cams+remap if you have enough money left in the budget. Will equal one sorted little clio.
Yes there is lol, My rally car has them and on rally slicks it lifts the rear wheels under hard braking, Very scary. Im looking into removing the servo as the brakes are far to light to have any control over them.
The only reason they bubble is due to getting chipped and people using acidic wheel cleaners on them. Use a decent non acidic cleaner on them and they should stay good for years.
Yeah ive heard a 172 lump before and this has a noticeable tap coming from it. if you put a screwdriver on the rocker cover on the pulley side and put it to your ear you can hear it really well. The further you get away from the pulley side the quieter it gets. And the fact it never did it when...
