You would getter better cooling efficiency off the fans if they were either shrouded so it pulls the air through the rad, or having them on the front to push it through.
Re: sonny172cup "track racer project"
You save about 8-10 kilos, but it's advantageous because it's high up weight your reducing so it lowers your CofG.
There are some screws that hold it in I think from memory. You need the key in the ignition to remove the barrel as well. It needs to be in the acc position, but again that's only from memory. It's been a while since I've did mine. It is easy though!
Yeah fair enough mate. Just do the usual checks of all fluid levels and adjust/top up as necessary, check brake pad thickness and replace if low. It's that sort of thing you want to do really.
Mines perfectly fine for the journey across to the ring and it's not let me down (touch wood) so far. It's a stripped and caged cup that I go over in.
What do you class as special preparations though? I take a few spares with me like a coilpack, injectors and rear discs (bearing failure) but...
Yeah they're not to bad really mark. As with everything like that though, they're only as accurate as the end user! You need to be consistent with how you use them and it's also worth noting you have to do maths to get the weight distribution calculations.
So I'm assuming you checked the drivers side wheel then yeah? Also, changing the steering rack bushes is a pita if you've not got access to a ramp.
You'll need your tracking resetting after this work has been carried out as well mate.
Check the steering rack bushes to see if there's any movement in them. Also check the steering arms for any play mate. Hold the wheel @ 3-9 and shake it. If there's play, you'll feel it.
Nah it was one of the original (and best) gsi's on a J plate. Still got it! It had the let in it as well. Managed to eventually get it down to 8:56. Went the following year in the cup and pissed an 8:53. The Astra never got used again after that! Had twice the hp of the cup but just couldn't...
Yes that's true about GT as well. It was Ex Muhle that made me think, 'f**k! It's not like that on the game!' Lol! It was the tarmac, sky, trees then tarmac again! Doesn't do that on my sofa!
First lap for me was a 9:52. Moved on a bit from there now - as you know chip!
I agree with chip on this one. I learnt the track on a ps2 and found it very good for knowing what corners were coming up and roughly what lines to take. What it can't teach you however is the gradients, actual real life corner speeds, little humps and bumps that throw you off line and the...
