Just to close this thread up and for reference, I went for the SKF 732mm long driveshaft offside for my Clio 172 Phase 1, and its great.
This was after the Tech guy fitted a Shaftec one, which he was assured would fit my Phase 1, but didnt, and he had to replace it
The info I was given was as...
Please find the following advice from someone other than me :-)
I have now noticed that Autodoc have it listed as 402027463R, which is the 172/182 hub with the wheel bearing that has an ID of 37mm AND 7700830220, which is the 182 Cup hub, that has a wheel bearing ID of 40mm.
It would be best...
Ive gotta say M90SR that Steve has been so much help on this issue, he's been a Godsend. He understood every issue I was complaining about, and his advice to me was copied to the Technician who did the work for me, and it has helped him out no end too. (So my Tech should receive a correct size...
Having had the drivers/offside driveshaft replaced on my 172 phase 1 , 20k miles and 3 years ago, I wasn't too surprised that it started clonking and banging merrily a couple weeks ago
I did a bit of research and found several suppliers of a new driveshaft, some recommended, and some NOT, but...
Just had my drivers side driveshaft on my 172 Phase 1 replaced , (Reconditioned shaft i believe) and getting the rumbling sound when reasonably fast cornering. Thought it was tyre at first, but checked the pressures. Will change the wheels at weekend see if that helps- could it be the replaced...
probably go for this one as it is detailed in another thread as a recommended one to use for O/S 172 (Non Cup) Phase 1
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/skf/13837
Wont tell them I use n track, but with a half cage, and mostly stripped out interior I reckon they may be suspicious
Still, will go see them anyway- I havent had any problems with it till now, so it mustav fitted correctly
Fancy doing it meself, but worried that the part I get wont fit
I see the J & R offside driveshafts get slated for not fitting
Anyone any comment on this one?

Gonna go have a chat with them tomorrow, see what they say...……..
Bet its "Been on the car 3 years, done 20kmiles and you use it on the track- you takes yer chances mate"
But yet the one the other side been fine, never touched it in 3 years?
so anyone on the getgo for where to get a correct size OS driveshaft for a 172 Phase 1 non cup?
JnR decent price on ebay at £60 odd, but if they dont fit...………………..
Took it to kwik fit for a free drive in inspection
Drivers side knackered. not sure if to have a go myself with axle stands et al, or just get them to do it
(Only had it done professionally 3 year ago, 20k miles - that sound right?)
Inner ARB bushes knackered too
Appreciate there are stacks threads on the driveshaft issue
After going over some sort of hole/bump on a country road, which was covered by leaves, I now have the odd clicky/clunky sound on accel/decal occasionally, and a good old shaky car over 40mph
I am guessing its a driveshaft unless...
All I can say is I bit the bullet and purchased a whole "small car kit" from these guys:
https://www.matt-pack.co.uk/car-kits-c102x3371356
All in, bcos I upgraded to the earlex gun it cost about £240 with 8 litres of dip
When the kit arrived I wasn't that impressed, so supposed all the...
Just bought some blaze orange, blaze blue, and blaze green (Small amounts) so I can play around with the wheel colour- suggestions which colour 1st up?
Couple things to comment on since car was sparyed up over 6 weeks ago: The paintwork looked like it gets sort of "bruised" for a couple of...
After reading this thread, chuffed I have a BTB exhaust fitted on my 172
Also got a Sports cat on it too, and sounds real good
My question is, does anyone know what the whole system is made of? I would have guessed Stainless steel, but looking at my pipe exit as seen in the photo, dont look...
The matt is really nice effect- even better the colour can be changed pretty easy every year.
I really enjoyed doing it too, except removing 3 yr old decals with a hairdryer.....
Cleaning and prep is key
Spent about 14hrs doing this last weekend
3 hrs removing decals
4 hrs cleaning and masking everything up/ removing some stuff
6hrs spraying (2 coats roughly every hour)
1 hour removing masking and replacing some parts
I love it, looks nice and mean, and good coverage in 99% of car, and...
