When I joined I was a little worried that my 1.4 wouldnt be...
Why bother with him?
If hes giving your car the dagger look then hes probably very jealous.
Youll probably get a better result if you just give him a friendly wave when he passes. If hes an arse hell just boot it a away but he might just be a decent bloke and stop for a closer look.
Well I assume youre used to the luxuries of the Golf so go for the 172 and not the Cup as youre a lot more likely to notice the lack of features than you are to notice the 0.1 second to 60

I couldnt sleep last night so I took the car out with a stopwatch for a few early morning 0-60 runs, and Im a bit disappointed with myself
Conditions were perfect too, dry and cold (6 degrees C)
First run was on a pretty flat, smooth piece of tar and I pulled of a 7.8s(remember Im at high...
6.4 litres per 100km if I drive very carefully and watch the mileage continually all the way to about 9.9 litres per 100km if i give it some real stick.
Sitting in traffic jams can push the figure as high as 15 litres per 100km
I average about 9 litres per 100km
Mine seemed to lose power at 25k but I figured I was getting used to it.

Guy from Jenveys emailed me to ask exactly what engine do I have in my car so he can source the correct manifold
I know its a F4R, but whats the exact code?
You answered the question yourself...your mums been driving it, and probably not pushing the car so in my professional opinion

Would this kit go on a mk1 or is the geometry too different?
Would it be possible to get the setup details from you so I could setup my car here (South Africa).
I just found out from Toolmantim that there happens to be a turbod and NOSd Mk1 172 in South Africa which put up a very respectable sub 12 second 1/4 mile on sunday (remember this is at altitude so times are higher than sea level)
