It indicates a fault - maybe a fluid level low. Its not there to tell you you need a service!

ah that explains it - the 36k service costs a bit more, I think they change the accessory belt or something.

Mk2 172 doesnt need a 30k service. Probably why it was cheap!

Pay a visit to your local dealer and see what they can do. I p/xd my 172 for my new V6, got a really good deal, and no fannying about with brokers or importers. timrs right about the initial depreciation, but you can minimise this by driving a hard bargain.
