I had a fiddle with the switch last night - if anything the probe is too far extended which means the brake lights don't come on until you give them a decent amount of pressure. ie Brushing the brakes doesn't light them up. What I did notice is that the whole switch was fairly loose in its...
Hmmm, maybe. Not so noticeable today - think it only happens when it's fully warmed through. When it does happen (at standstill), the clutch pedal creaks and you can feel the vibration through the brake pedal too....
Got the SERV, ABS and traction control lights come on on the way home...
Just found this, which suggests it might be the brake light switch.....

Mine has just done this too on the way home - same 3 lights, and they also went out once restarted....
Think mine came on after I had to brake sharpish on some just-laid grit - wonder if it triggered the ABS and threw up a problem? Cruised gently home (only got the car yesterday!) in nervous...
It must be up there with the best in class for driving enjoyment: the Fiesta, & maybe prev. model Punto. The Yaris and Polo are very good small cars, but they are better in other aspects of ownership, such as depreciation and reliability, rather than performance and handling.
Clio was defo...
Baz - did you get one as a result of the Bulkbuy thread from 2 years ago? How's it been?
I've read through that and was impressed with the service, price and quality mentioned.
Use the e-mail linky at the bottom of the ad first off, and politely ask him to remove your picture.
Failing that, it has to be castration with a rusty hacksaw........
That's exactly what I intend to do, but Aux belt first just to be safe. Car's in great condition but you never know how previous owners have driven it. About to contact RSTuning for a quote.
Then tyres given the weather - looking at Eagle F1 GSD3s.....
Then exhaust, assuming it hangs...
Nah, it's not a bang, it's a booooom! It's not a problem with the car (I don't think!) - just a fairly vivid transition from quiet mild-mannered tootling around to VROOOOOM when giving it some beans. Sounds almost like an aftermarket exhaust but it isn't - it's the standard OE rusty one ;)
Guess it depends on your budget - about £7k is tops for the last 172s & earliest 182s with average miles. Don't know too much about 182s, but with 172s the main omission on the Cup is ABS, along with some of the luxury items like auto-xenons, A/c, leather seats etc. I guess it depends how much...
Wow...! Thanks all.
Yeah, Aux belt and tyres are first priority. Pretty sure the spare is unused, so presumeably that will have a Michelin on it. Will check in daylight.
Not sure if the clutch was just to do with the return spring or something more sinister. Got used to the biting...
The Village is the top end of Headingley, but just a mile across the valley from Meanwood :)
Seems to be quite a few from Leeds on here Daz :)
Picked up the car today - fantastic first drive despite the awful weather and traffic problems. First impressions and a few [more] questions here...
Oh yes, today was finally the day I got to pick up my 'new' 172 - 53-plate Iceberg Silver. Had a 100-mile journey home, which took 3hrs+ thanks to a load of truck drivers playing banger racing and shutting the M1 earlier in the day, so I took a detour through Sherwood Forest :)
OK - Good...
Cheers for that. Seen the servicing thread, but I'm well aware that it's advisable to do the belts earlier than the manufacturer recommended....
"That’s the official lines. Personally I’d change the oil between every service......." And belts at?
I pick the car up tomorrow, so until then I...
I'll see. I haven't even got the car yet - Thurs. Might be a nice drive out if I take the back roads. Still not sure about the fancy dress though.... :clown:
So are the Yorkshire section a lively crowd? And apart from dress up ( ), what else do you do?
Sorry for the daft noobie question..., but I noticed that my new Clio 172 has clear side repeaters on an otherwise bog standard car, and a quick scan on pistonheads reveals an awful lot of 172/182s have the same. Were they ever original standard fitment on some models or colours, or are they...
Cheers all - really looking forward to it (I pick it up later this week).
Rudi - I paid just over £6k from an indie garage. In the end I didn't mind paying decent money for a very clean car, low miles and known history (it was previously sold and serviced by the same garage).
Gazeratti -...
I'd say 4800 is about right given the good condition, maybe slightly less in view of the cambelt needing doing. 51-plates rarely make over 5k these days, especially privately.
How did you get on?
Hello all
I've lurked on this forum for a while now as I planned to go for a Clio Sport as my next car. Well yesterday, I finally did it and bought a 53-reg Iceberg Silver 172 with 34k on the clock.
I pick it up later in the week, but for now I'm looking for guidance on the following that...
