Clear side repeaters - standard fitment?

Sorry for the daft noobie question..., but I noticed that my new Clio 172 has clear side repeaters on an otherwise bog standard car, and a quick scan on pistonheads reveals an awful lot of 172/182s have the same. Were they ever original standard fitment on some models or colours, or are they all aftermarket mods?

Fitted as standard after 2003 iirc.
