Wont copper grease damage the rubber gaitor?

    ABS fault

172 cups don't have abs - correct. OP's asking about phase 1 ABS light illuminated - there's a fault with the ABS system I have no idea what constitutes "heavy" braking to the OP but when I'm driving fast and last minute brake up to a junction I don't expect my abs to kick in, except if...

    ABS fault

Not really, no! Often it's a broken or corroded reluctor ring but from what you say it's likely to be an electical faut, if the abs light is illuminated and you get it kicking in when braking up to junctions. With all the bad weather recently, your wiring might have been contaminated. It...

    possible cheaper inner track rod?

The renault part number in my first post was for the 182 cup. I assume the 172 cup is the same but cannot be 100% sure. The QH part number I bought is QR3729S and this is the same length as the part fitted my 182 with cup chasssis. I'm not a forum member so can't post the pics but the part looks...

Inner Steering Joints on Clio 172 Cup

No. thats far too short. They are around 318mm measured from the mating surface of the rod/steering rack to the end of the outer thread (which is what the quoted lengths above will be). The total length of the part being about 335mm. Aftermarket places don't quote the right part. You could also...

    Steering wheel shakes like crazy....

I would have put money on you having buckled the wheel that hit the pothole, however the HiQ guy would surely have checked for that, especially as you say he checked the balancing to be OK - quite strange. If you were accellerating or braking hard at the exact moment you hit the pothole you...

    Standard 182 springs - worth selling ?

If you have blue/yellow on front and red/white on rear then I think you will have 182 cup springs (according to my car anyway).

    Wheels for a 172cup

Same thing for me. doubt there's anything wrong with your alloys/tyres though. a) newer tyres have more tread b) winter rubber is much softer compound c) shape of the tyre in 195/50 R15 is higher profile and it's probably on a proportionatley narrower rim if you've got steels All of the above...

    Wheels for a 172cup

Good man! Prowdly displaying a wise choice to invest in winter rubber by having ghetto wheels! lol

    Wishbone movement ?

Quite normal. The up/down swing of the arm flexes the bush material in rotation, it needs to be stiff to supress any lateral movement. The spring/strut forces are much higher so the up/down loadings from the bush are relatively insignificant on suspension compliance. The improtant point is that...

    Wheels for a 172cup

Can't see any link to the wheels you have seen so I've no idea if they will fit or not. It is easy to find a wheel that physically fit on your car (have the right PCD and bore diameter etc) but beware of getting something with the wrong offset (ET) as it will alter the steering feel and...

    Disintegrating DS2500's

I'ts an easy forum habit. it seems. I've used EBC Yellow on two of my cars in the past few years with great results in fade resistance and better feel. No idea if they are any good compared to mega-£££ pads but I was impressed. Waiting to try their blues on the clio which seem a good all rounder...

    Brembo HC discs and pads

factor in delivery and VAT and it's similar. I (and others i know) have still got a good price/service from Kam but I've not got quotes from trhe likes of G172 on the traders yet so can't compare myself. Ones things for sure, nobody should be paying upwards of £50 / £60 for a set of discs -...

    Brembo HC discs and pads

I was rating them very highly for road use as they bite very well and felt great.. until I went on track at Oulton in late October. Went from 3/4 pad down to metal before lunch time. Really ruined the day. My mate in the Trophy had exactly the same setup and he had his brand new set of brembo...

    possible cheaper inner track rod?

Parts finally came today (my choice for free delivery was the reason for slow service) The inner rods are exactly the same length as mine on the car, I peeled back the gaitor and they appear same dimensions. The part that came was 335mm from end of thread to end of thread (that's the total...

    182 inlet manifold gasket

Seems quite a jump-to-conclusions when from the description given by the OP the oil seems to be from the bolts themselves... ? Give photo's if you want a realistic diagnosis froma forum

    possible cheaper inner track rod?

I've ended up ordering the QH ones from that site, £51 delivered for inner rods and rod ends both sides. I will measure up and take photos when they arive, hopefully before the weekend. I know it says for the Kangoo 4x4 but the Renault part number cross reference is correct, most other...

    et of standard 172 wheels??

No. It's other way around with ET. You can't correct for a lower Et by adding spacers, you will end up with the equivalent of an ET 38 wheel.

    Tram line feel

I'd be looking at the front - check for play in any joints. Then get tracking done. The mention of tyres above is also a good call - if they have uneven wear or generally quite low on tread then it will exagerate any tendency to tramline.

    Pre cat lambda fault

My thinking too. No substitute for proper diagnosis but it can't hurt. It's one of the few things that hasn't been done in the last 50k - I like prevention and peace of mind

    Pre cat lambda fault

Nice to have the update, Thanks. I'm probably going to swap my coolant temp sensor for peace of mind as my emmissions light has flashed briefly a couple of times recently, though could be any number of reasons of course. Car seems to be running fine, but MPG during warm-up phase is suddenly...

    182 cup rear shocks

Although I think the original fitment from factory was actually KYB, I wouldn't take a punt on any generic KYB unit if you have the cup chassis as I' pretty sure they are different rates. Also, I don't think the K-tec site is very clear on that either, just listing two, so wouldn't be confident...

    possible cheaper inner track rod?

http://www.micksgarage.com/steering-suspension-parts/inner-tie-rod/renault/kangoo/kangoo/1997-onwards/1.9-dci-4x4/16500/ The FAI Automotive part with number SS6263 looks like the correct rod for the SMI rack to match the Renault part number 7701473656 (which I think is correct for cup pack...

    Swapped wheels, tracking worse :(

Worth checking that the track rod ends arn't worn, if they haven't been replaced recently? After several large potholes being hit over the last month I've seen an increase in tramlining and my steering wheel now seems slightly offset. This morning I have checked for play and my nearside track...

new 182 exhaust on the dyno

... I think the OP probably has, unfortunately. I was genuinely interested in you findings Higgsy. I'd rather get 20 comments, half of them might be unhelpful, but I'd rather that than a forum with no activity and each comment just echoeing what everyone else says... (like Trophy forum..:quiet:)

new 182 exhaust on the dyno

Completely agree that no-one should be too bothered by a bit of negativity. But I've learnt a lot from the "negative" coments - because they've seen it all before it can sound degrading, but those like chip who take time to explain their thinking are invaluable on any forum. It's just...

I'd feel happy to use it, yes.

Fitting new track rod ends, Help Needed!

Equates to about 0.6 mm. But if the gauge gives a reading for Total toe rather than the individual wheels then you want to aim for double that, somewhere between 1 and 1 1/2 mm total toe out

    Valve stem oil leak

I very much doub't a valve stem failure also! Can you see oil on top of the engine, to the left side? It might be a minor leak from a bolt or the solenoid and it could be getting down the plug hole making the mechanic think it's getting oil into the cylinder? I would get a second opinion (if...
