Thanks for that....I was beginning to think I'd need to remove it so that's saved me some time.
The OE airbox has a pretty good supply of cold air from around the headlight for the top and down in the area fed with cold air from the vent under the bumper.....I don;t think using a 'positive...
Trophy is definately the one to go for...would love one myself but just can't afford it at the moment so am going to have to make do with the 172 with some suspension upgrades.
Very true...turbo cars are fun but are not always that easy to drive...a lot of them, especially older cars are very on/off in nature and tricky to keep 'on song'.
Really enjoy the naturally aspirated almost linear power from the 172
Agree
Definately hold on to it and leave in the original condition.....can't be that many around that are stock now...most have been either wrapped around a tree, put in a ditch or modified to the poor ickle engines limit.
Thanks Gary....I'll have a look into the Bilsteins
Looked at the FKs on a few sites but wasn't sure about them anyway....as always, you get what you pay for so they're probably not going to be great at the price.
Not interested in lowering the car, just want to sharpen it up a bit in the...
That's all very well but at the end of the day b**locks to it....if I can afford the M3 I'm buying it because it's got a great, smooth engine.
I always hear people banging on about how their cars are Porsche and Ferrari beaters but at the end of the day that doesn't matter..they are not...
Going to have a look into Eibach dampers & springs....not sure if I can stretch my budget to coilovers.
Who's the best supplier for Eibach stuff in the UK?
Good point and each to their own I say
Personally I'm keeping the upgrades on the 172 discreet as that's the way I've always liked my cars.
If I feel the need for a big power hike then it'll be time to change cars
I am looking at upgrading the suspension on my Mk2 172 in the future and just wanted to hear some feedback from people on here as to what's a good setup.
I don't want anything that lowers the car that much...preferebly not at all...would running upgraded adjustable dampers on the OE springs...
Heard people mentioning this but very sceptical about Renault honouring a warantee on a belt if you fitted it yourself.
Be interested to hear if they have though.
I'm running a similar setup at the moment (Green panel, sports cat and Stealth exhaust) but have left the valve in place.
TBH the design is pretty good....if you look at the grill there is an air deflector which flows cool air in to the top intake whilst the bottom one with the valve on is...
It's a crankcase breather which lets fumes back into the induction tract...should conect into the rocker cover underneath the coilpack to the rear of the engine.
Principles of changing the cambelt is the same as on any other engine.
I always get a garage to do it just to be on the safe side...work guranteed so if it does snap/slip there is some comeback.
I suppose it does depend on the age of the car and how long your thinking of keeping it for
I think for K-tec and BB these project cars are a good demonstration of their engineering/tuning abilities.
For the average driver like me though it's far too much to spend on a 172.....rather buy an evo 6 with 280bhp and pocket the change.
