Well if you need anything feel free to give me a call :) Balancing is worth doing too IMO which I can have done for you, along with all the bits you might need
cost depends how far you go and how well you do the build. Also depends very much on what you find is damaged when you open up the engine
There's no need to go for forged internals to run ITB's. I've done 2 full rebuilds recently with standard bottom ends, and simply added ARP bolts to the con...
condition is everything. Don't worry about miles as long as the mileage/age related jobs have been done. F4R's love mileage as long as they're serviced
just seen this on facebook
"Smug c**t in scooby went hacking past me on the motorway about 10mins ago in the snow, just past the very same car smashed to f**k with bits laying over all 3 lanes!"
Driving standards are exceptionally low in this country
shouldn't copperslip pads, just clean everything and at most put a little grease right on the edge of the pad that touches the caliper carrier. Never use lots of grease on brakes
it's going to be you. My mk1 was on paper the worlds worst vehicle for snow, but no-one told it. I'm only not using the 172 in it as I have the volvo and i dont trust everyone else's driving
definitely a specialist job to weld cast iron. You need to get it very hot before welding, then slow down the cooling rate a lot or the crack will come straight back through the weld
The engine in my 172 has a dephaser from a needless change fitted to it. Owner insisted despite it being silent and faultless. But then in this case it's free to change it if it ever gets noisy, so no risk
Water pump is very rarely an issue. Done a few recently, but they've mostly been noisy as they're non genuine replacements that have been needlessly changed in the first place
Dephaser, I would say 1 in 5 needs doing. If you're around 100k then it makes sense to do it. On a 60k car with no...
I use canems on mk1s and its a good ecu. If you want no frill its ideal and will run an f4r perfectly. I would go for a GEN 90 on a 172, and infact I have
Perfect example of perception rather than experience right there tbh.
I think you'd be surprised how many eibach owners are a bit disappointed for the money spent. Mostly they wont post as the get shot down
perception is a funny thing. Forums are terrible for recommending or writing off something on the basis of 4th hand info. Human nature to copy/follow other lead I guess.
I would personally be doing 3 oil and filter changes over 500 miles, using something relatively cheap for the first 2. I'd recommend having the timing checked, and get plugged in to see if your lambda is functioning correctly
