I've had no end of them in with tippex or permenant marker on them, my old silver one had the belts done by a specialist in Bristol apparently. Sadly they're all becoming apparent now as they're all due for the second belt change generally.
Cat failure there is a common problem. you can weld on a sleeve on the centre section and have it so that it slip fits the cat, or I have welded on a 2 bolt flange for 1 customer (at his request)
I've been passenger in a mk1 golf with a 350bhp 20vt, and it did similar things to a 996 turbo on the m5. Scary on the limit as the doors were pulling themselves open at the top at around 140.
