we had a 2008 1.2 16v that was only a year old and 50k miles that threw its belt! renault stuck a new belt on it and it worked fine lol

had a few cars do this, usually caused by the battery being weak and the alternator having extra strain on it, a change of battery usually cures it. however also worth checking the tensioner on the belt

if i was changing back to standard springs i wouldnt be touching anything other than genuine renault if your worried about the car being spot on.

i never got to the bottom of the issue with mine either, i was getting more miles to a tank in my 172 when i got it over my 1.2 piece of s**t.

i hammer the GT about all the time, never had it past 3k rpm tho! all my 172s have been hammered too and never once had a mechanical failure on one!

i wouldnt worry too much about it, clios constantly fail mots on snapped coil springs and cheap alternitaves are put on, a lot of them out there will be like this!

surely the speedo should work regardless of the gearbox. the problem would only occur fitting a non speedo drive gearbox to a cup/ph1? ph2 takes speedo from the ABS system..

can just replace the dampers their own but as you said make sure you get a pair and not just one as the other will be soon behind it!
