Got a chance to see one close up and being driven quick and they are very good cars. Dont underestimate their handling either I would back a R32 to keep up with a 182 on any road really, loads of torque and interior is sweet as well. Plus there is decent build quality compared to french cars...
No I dont have any brand loyalty, when I was looking for a new car it had to be a 2.0 hot hatch with good handling. Nearly bought a Gti-6 but ended up with a Williams, I could now afford something faster/more expensive but it wouldnt be the same driving experience as a Willy.
Needed a faster car after having a vtr for 2 years so I decided I wanted a 2 litre hot hatch. Looked at a Gti-6 and the dealer wouldnt take part-ex, looked at a Williams 2 and they did. Sold!
I have noticed that some slightly tweaked 172s are doing 1/4 miles at around 14.7-14.9 secs @ 94-95 mph. When you compare this to cammed/modded 2.0 valvers and willys which do 14.4 ish @ 94-95 mph, how can the older style clio get terminal speeds so similar but run 0.3-0.6 secs quicker up the strip?
Im not far from the Lake District and wouldnt mind going for a drive up there. I dont know any of the decent roads though, would prefer smoothish roads rather than farm tracks. Anyone got any ideas?
I included running costs/consumables.

16v are a pretty old car now and imo you cant tell anything about how much the car is worth from milage/reg. Condition is everything on these cars, a well looked after rust free car is worth more than a neglected car with 50k less on the clock.
Was looking through all the reciepts Ive got for my car earlier and they add up to a shocking amount. At a rough guess Id say it was around 5k (including consumables) about the same as I bought the car for. So I was wondering how much other people have spent on their cars and at what point do...
