itll slip when you boot it away from a standing start, 2nd gear whilst you slam the change most people gas it before its fully engaged so you get a period whilst the flywheel and clutch disc match their speed, and you accelerate very slowly, frying your clutch. Its not a permanent thing, but its...
billions, from emerald, webcon and luminition for the cheaper end, to DTA and pectel for over a grand.
You could try using a cossie webber marelli ecu.
not hard, the new one will come in 2 peices.
The std one is a single peice job put on before they raise the rear axle up to the shell......so you have to cut it off to get it off as the axle is in the way.
if you junked the OE ECU you would loose ABS, climate control and any auto features it had, along with the trip etc etc.

for the MK1 172 its 72mm OD and the MK2 is difficult to explain as it has the same OD but a tapered body which ends up as 68mm IIRC, but it was a long time ago i checked.
its ok, if he uses new and the PROPER box fluid.
Its a bit labourious, but nothing to taxing.
Your post confused me, i thought you were on about the different size oil seals Ren use, not the differential lol.
oh shush you big girl! lol
I wouldnt bother with the cams as such yet, the VVT system is extreemly simple and you might end up not being satisfied.
A properly worked head with worked inlet manifold (will require the plenham top being cutoff for access and tig welded back on).
