yes, literally opening the airbox will leave your engine without proper filtration, (remember the car was designed with a airbox for a reason ;) )
an open induction kit will not offer any heat soak protection, so you wont gain any power, and could possibly loose some but it will sound alot...
just trying to work a few things out chaps, now if i was to put my car up for sale, would anyone be interested? i think most of you guys know the details, id need about £2100?
I didnt want to start a for sale thread as im not really selling it as yet,but im desperatly trying to sort a few things...
doubt it will be dampers chap off the top of my head that could be:
Top mounts worn
engine mounts craking/moving
steering rack bushes(this is what it was on mine)
wishbone bushes
its back left (as you look from under the bonnet mate - drivers side) between the engine and bulkhead, prob with some foam round it
its down the back there so with the engine cover on it might be hard to see
i very much doubt pistons are damaged, i took a head off a mk3 golf 16v last year, and changed all the valves as the belt stripped the teeth off, the valves bad proper bent, pistons were fine
def pop the head off and check though as it sounds like you have bent a few valves there
