Yep - you've both got a valid point there (Roy & Rasclart). If the developers themselves get the lions' share of the money going back to them, they are far more likely to update and mod the original game for the sake of the community.
EA (imo) doesn't give a flying monkey's about customers...
Cheers guys.
I'm even more willing to try it as I've got a spare blank SATA drive to hand. Unplug the one containing my 32-bit XP and hoof this fresh drive in to try out 64-bit XP.
The only game I can think of specifically that supported 64-bit was that 400MB+ patch that they did for Farcry...
Has anyone used this O/S for gaming? I know on paper that 99.9% of games are 32-bit apps anyway, but I'm intrigued to see if there's any difference and/or improvement?
I've got an AM2 Athlon 64 X2 4800 and also have downloaded official XP64 Pro drivers for all of my hardware. I've got the eval...
Maybe Saner. I'm on 2MB BB now at home and first encountered Steam on a mere 512k connection. I guess because I didn't backup my files last time didn't help either.
It's still got a long way to convince me otherwise, though. ;)

I still dislike it m8. I've had the same conversation with a bloke at work who really likes it. I just hate online involvement with games from the developers - especially when you just want to play the bloody thing.
What happens when 10, 12, 20+ games on your PC all require their own 'version'...
How much is it? I haven't checked. I guess the only thing that's putting me off is that you have to use Steam to get it, iirc? Steam sucks the big one. :dead:
Want to play HL2? Steam kicks in.
Want to play CSS online? Steam kicks in.
Want to play CSS on your own goddamn PC with no need to...
Yep - small scale, you're fine. It would be IT suicide to have SBS here now though. We had SBS years ago which incoporated a turd version of SQL. The trouble was, was that SQL was (and still is) crucial to our day-to-day business. The cut-down SBS version caused us no end of issues. Got our...
Good man! :D
Make sure you download the latest drivers from www.soundblaster.com m8 - the ones on the Install CD are prehistoric. You'll have to use the ones on the CD to install it first though.
There's also that X-Fi specific patch for UT2004 - make sure you get that too.... ;)

Tyson - you should be able to get it down a bit, but it's the area that kills it for us. You're probably about three miles from me as the crow flies. I'm an old fart, over 10 NCB, no points or convictions and have been driving 14 years. I'm still paying circa £750 per year on the 182.
Fecking...
It got me thinking because I'd heard that certain stock ECUs can degrade over time as well. It certainly makes sense from an IT perspective, but I didn't know if it was common on cars and their maps in particular. After all, an engine bay is hardly the most efficient of environments to have...
Slightly off topic - doc remaps 'degrade' over time? By that, do they need re-remapping say 18months/2 years down the line? Or is it a case of done once, done forever?

patty - the dust must really be caked on there?
I tried some of that Fairy Power Spray off a thread recommendation this weekend and the results were superb. Nearly 20k on these alloys too.
Might melt the pads and discs by the end of the week, mind. ;)

Yep - only the onboard 64MB X-Ram on the Fatal1ty and the Elite Pro. The other two (Platinum and Xtreme Music) don't have it.
Roy, the question you have got to ask yourself is the fact that you've forked out for a dogs danglies PC and yet you're considering sticking to onboard audio. That's...
I've only got a pair of Technics headphones! Tend not to use them that much as I sh1t myself royally when playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I was crouched behind some crates listening intently to where the Germans where walking, when unbeknown to me, Jain had been shouting me from downstairs...
