Roy - I'd up the spec of the X-Fi - purely for the X-Ram alone. If you're into your games, it a bit of a compromise to ignore it....

Tbh, I don't know of anyone who has the Elite Pro? I don't use 90% of the features of the Fatal1ty, so I probably would use less on the Elite Pro. I'd be interested to know if anyone on CS has one???
The only issue with them is the masses of Creative Labs bloatware that comes with them. Just a...
Roy - just get an X-Fi Fatal1ty and be done with it. You know it makes sense..... ;)
On a serious note, as good as onboard audio sounds, it relies on codecs and thus a noticable hit on the CPU. Dedicated sound-cards relieve this load off the CPU. I noticed a considerable improvement...
Here you go, m8....

Was the benchmark for high-end PCs a couple of years back. Very good game actually. Falls into one of those annoying categories where I've played it many times but have yet to actually finish it! :)

Right chaps,
I've recently reinstalled HL2 and thought about giving CSS a bash at the same time. However, I played very little of the original CS and only managed a limited go on Team Fortress Classic, many years ago.
Basically, I'm getting owned.................. and royally. This isn't...
Sure do - and that leave's a big     - as to where on earth my X-Fi card will go with a 2nd gfx card?
Even if space isn't an issue, you can bet heat build-up will be.

They really are two different things though. We used Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 clients here at work. My .pst file is approx 300MB in size and there are other users with much more email than me.
At home though, I think I've around 25MB (max) email and I tend to keep on top of emptying...
LOL Lee - it's not quite as clean and tidy as yours, but a damn-sight better than the pic above! Those P180 cases are superb, aren't they?
Tyson - if you ever need to consider upgrading/spending/etc, give me a shout. You're in the neighbourhood, so I could always pop round. Coffee, white, no...
Yep, and you can understand why, when you see my pre-tidyup pic below. ;)
You then spend just as much time unplugging and replugging things back in to optimise the space the cables take up.
Jaybee - it's like most things m8. Building a PC is very straight-forward these days. It...
Aye. The default clock speed of a 7900 is higher than a 7950 as well. You could argue that the 7950 has more 'headroom' to overclock then - as well as the whole dual-core aspect of it.

Just started using T-Bird at home this week. Really like the look and feel of it, though simple things in OE like aliases take a bit more effort to solve in T-Bird.
Still, for free, you can't knock it. I'm nearly a full blown user of Firefox now too - cursed IE! ;)
D.
Yey - good scores there Roy! I'm on 6,070 with identical kit to you, bar your 7950 being a 7900GTX in mine.
To be honest, you'll be fine with that for some time. Unless I really stretch the settings, I'm having trouble stressing the 7900GTX. Still, that M2N32SLi mobo is a superb piece of kit...
Is your copy of Windows legit?
Personally, I'd whack on SP2, then the directX update from April '06 and then install the latest drivers. Personally, I shove an old HDD in there and update the BIOS to the latest revision on any new mobo - giving the new & clean O/S the best start.
First...
Personally, the mobo is the single piece of equipment that I try not to cut corners on. The marked improvements in functionality for sometimes as little as £15-£20 more, is really worth it.
I'm a fan of Asus mobos, though I do like MSI as well.
These would be near to the limit of your...
I thought the last four pins were detachable (or at least, easily seperated) from the main block of 20pins?
Not having much luck so far, are you Roy?
D.
Bingo. Step out of that native resolution and things start to look turdy. CRTs are still so much better for that.
However, the big plus-point for TFTs (aside from the obvious space saving) is they create far less eye-strain than CRTs.
D.
Good lad - I can't see any point swapping my 19" Iiyama CRT just yet. Fantastic resolution support and it's run everything crystal clear for the past 4 years. Sure, its a big, heavy b*****d and when it does eventually die, I'll get a TFT instead. But for now - CRT all the way. TFT at work - CRT...
Decided to give the Megs Rich Leather product a bash last night. I'd been concerned over the last couple of weeks with my car being left in direct sunshine while at work, that ultimately it may start to effect the trim on the 182 seats.
Took it easy at first - especially as the instructions...
It comes down to your speakers Roy. If like you say, you only use a 2.1 speaker setup then I'd consider something like an X-Fi card to be a bit of a luxury, imo. If you're fortunate enough to have a full blown surround sound setup - 5.1 and upwards, then the X-Fi Fatal1ty really is worth it...
The P180B was on a recommendation from a m8 - and a very good one at that. It's quiet, looks the nuts and just has that overall 'quality' feel to it. The only thing I can fault them on is the misely amount of screws they give you. Bloody tight-asses! ;)
