could be worse, i had a 54plate 40kmiles 182 in the other day that the owner had just bought, HPI clear etc etc
fitted with a 172 engine from 2001 with cira 100K miles by the look of it

yep seriously, waste of time its not going to make your car any quicker by fitting a fancy panel filter
no one bothers cleaning them (its a hassle to do anyway!)
its all we use, even on the track cars etc, Sam's 182 did 192 bhp and 166 torques using a stock filter, they're not restrictive...
its easier with the right bits, but you can do it without
i do them myself (sometimes) but most of the time i send them to my gearbox guy as they're a bit of a t**t!

20mm wider front track, 10mm wider rear (might be the other way round, i forget)
thinner glass (all of it!)
no AC (unless its a gay later model cup)
majority had RS inlets
no ABS
etc etc
max wear out quicker - in short don't bother
stick to HC discs, crazy people out there sell them new for about £40 now, how they make any money is beyond me!
