i understand it as in all claims you have to pay the excess upfront your fault or not, then it gets given back to you (if it wasnt your fault).

ive been told you cant swap them anyway, as the dials transfer the mileage etc.

you can buy the proper tools from almost any car shop, just tell them what you are trying to do, usually cost around £2-3
