Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread
Made a decision(sp) on the pas. The saxo electric idea is out. It was a easy choice when u work out the weight of the saxo pumps (very heavy) vs the cost of the pump vs the ease of installation
Picked up a different alternator and pas pump today, fits...
Just removing the ac pump is not really possible due to the belt routing. The best way is to use a different bracket that relocates the alternator, shortens the belt routing and looses the 'servicable' idler and tensioner. Making aux belt replacement cheaper too.
Cup set up is totaly ifferent...
Tried the 172 alternator but it requires modding to line up with the bracket. even the the adjustment would not be ideal. Much easier to use a different alternator, which i have now and it fits perfectly
Im still keeping the pas ;)
by removing it i have lost 3 pulleys that the a/c setup has. compressor, lower idler and the auto tensioner pulley.
For those who are interested i will post details of what bits u need to do the conversion. Its gonna work out MUCH cheaper than a cup setup
take a plug out and rest a long screw driver in there maybe. watch it go up and down till u find the top. But u will know if its in the ballance hole, it feels diferent
its all fairly new tho isnt it?
Good idea, i'll probably wait till next time u organise one there. If we do ever sort one out local to me then at least id be able to compare it to Justin's etc
A the end of the day if it FEELS better when im done, i'll be happy
Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread
You dont need to strip this much off but im doing lots of other things at the same time so thats why it looks drastic.
It all adds up. The aircon has never worked. The aux pulley kit is £107+vat. that would need replacing anyway
I will remove all the unwanted bits, save weight and spend a hell of a lot less than that sorting the aux belt out. So i think its worth it......
No i havent set a target or anything. tbh there is loads I could do but i dont think i'll get much more off without spending money on carbon bits and plastic windows etc.
Would like to change the seats at some stage, they are heavy and the size of arm chairs
As some of you will know, at the recenet CS rolling road day my ph1 172 turned out a measly 142.9 bhp at the fly!
I always thought that it didnt feel as fast as i thought it should from the day i test drove it. As its stripped i imagined it would be much more lively than it is. I was...
Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread
Right update time............
One of the aux belt pulleys has been squealing for some time on start up but just recently it got worse. Decided to put track time on hold and pull out of combe and sort it.
This envolves alot of work as im going to...
Thats is the best/only way at the time. it was bodged before and there is no where left to mount it. The morning of the mot it just fell off. I understand what your saying tho
Pics? examples?
Lol, or me.......
Sorry but alot of people seam to care. I read quite a few threads where the weight of the aircon is disputed. Was only posting for those interested
Mine now weighs around 935kg. Its a track focused car. i bet most people on the track would have turned the aircon off if they still have it any...
Been very busy today. now ive decided not to do combe i can crack on with the latest mods/improvements and search for my missing power. (more on that later, in another thread)
With the help of Dave, (BomberGTR) We took off all the a/c compressor and brackets.
And this lot...
The mounting point on both the bumper and the wing are broken and the only way i could get it to sit right was by drilling a hole and fitting a small bolt.
Ive seen some cars with bonnet pin style clips on them, kind of making it quick release. could i do this or does anyone have any...
