How quickly are you opening the door after unlocking? The alarm needs a second or so to disarm after unlocking as its piggybacked off the rcl.

Would be easy enough to do, LEDs won't draw enough curent to worry about relays etc just pick a feed up from the interior light and depending on the type of leds they should fade up/down which the interior light too.

What year is the car? If theres no ABS fault light shown and its an early (Y, 51, 02) car check is hasn't got a speedo sensor fitted. As the early ones hit and miss use speedo sensors instead of the abs and its usually the speedo sensor in the diff that fails to cause lack of speedo.

Theres no real knack to it just keep trying, a normal socket with a short extension is a better length than a deep socket I find as the deep socket comes about flush with the guard whereas the normal socket and extension protudes enough to get your fingers on you. And oh yeah its pissing itself...
