    I took mine out, tried it and then refitted it. No benefit I could see and I did drop a few mpg which was restored when I refitted it.

    I've got a fault code reader coming in the post to check on that one, i'm also borrowing a throttle pedal and body from MarkM so hopefully should be able to narrow it down between those two.

    Changing the Aux belt - do the cambelt as well?

    Not 100% on the aux belt procedure with the 172 but if its anything like my old 1.6 (very similar design) then theres plenty more effort to be made to change the cambelt as well. You need to remove/refit the aux idler and tensioner, lock the cams correctly, replace the cam core plugs once...

    172 exhausts

    The magnex ticks all the boxes for noise, a lot of people on here will warn you off them because they're a bit fiddly to fit, and the look of them is a little marmite. But i've got mine fitted fine after a little tweaking (and new exhaust rubbers), it does seem quite well made and solid as well.

    Idle Too High?

    Was thinking of getting a fault code reader on it but its not showing any warning lights so I doubt theres been any faults stored. Its not like its in limp home mode, its very strange as it still drives fine apart from this.

    Thought this as well but the engine temp gauge doesn't move about, and it doesn't hold the cold idle anyway. Usually way above that, had it holding at 2krpm earlier.

    Cold idle level is fine, so is the hot idle its just that it never uses them! Filter is fine, the 172 F4R uses MAP instead of MAF and that looks fine too.

    The one in the bottom of the box runs to behind the headlight and the one out the side leads down to the acoustic valve.
