I had a fantastic day, thanks to everyone for behaving themselves as it really was touch 'n' go at the beginning with the insurance issue.
My nephew Tom was grinning all the way home...he now knows why I'm always banging on about the RS Clios...and his ride in the V6 donutting with Clarkie...
LOL - nothing in it...are you blind?
The Elise did not, as you say, block the Focus on the last exit, the Elise moved over to let me and the Focus past as we were both clearly quicker than it was...and then finally, after 5 laps of me being sat on his arse, the Focus also did the decent...
35yo + my wife as named driver
172 Cup with declared mods
Live in a sleepy village (average age is 80 or something LOL)
£245 fully comp last year (but then my missus does work for Aviva/Norwich Union)
Continental Sportcontact on mytyres are about £65, then you have to get them fitted. They're not as competitive as they used to be.
ProTyres in Fareham threw one on for me yesterday for £67 all in - highly recommended.
There was a Zonda having some new rear boots fitted while I was there...
Looks like a cracking day...weather looked better than I had at Bedford too.
Got to get up to Donny sometime...can't wait to try the Craner curves, then there's Cadwell, and Oulton as well...
We need a southerners tour oop north I tell thee :)
I have to conceed though that I was running a set of very tired Yoko A032's to help me along as well :o
And it might have looked like it/I was on rails but believe me, it was on the edge, moving about quite a bit from turn-in to exit...was the last session of the day and I was determined to...
First off...huge thanks to James for sending me the DVD of this - this is filmed from his seriously rapid nicely driven VTS following me pushing an Ultima along.
I know they're ultimately quicker than a 172 Cup, and I don't profess to have a faster car than an Ultima.
But, it doesn't...
It is, regular stops from 100mph+.
They still kinda hauled me up, but I lacked confidencce in them which is what I'm looking for when pressing on.
Better give Mr Hughes a call I think :)
Had pretty serious fade at Bedford, and it seems I'm now asking for more than DS2500's have to give.
Can anyone say which are "better"? Dust isn't an issue as my wheels are black anyway and I hardly ever clean my car...I just need to know that when I step on the middle pedal they're gonna...
PMSL at some of these replies...yes the Focus is a "better" car, a faster car, but is it more focussed or exploitable in amateur hands than my 172 Cup is in mine? Apparently not. I wasn't doing anything special, just feeling what was going on, reacting where necessary and joining the dots...
To David ^^^
He was holding me up in a big way, I had to keep letting off to avoid running into him.
Also, overtaking is by consent only...there were 2 or 3 chances where I'd have comfortably got past and outbraked him...but I didn't want to get black-flagged and sent home.
ITG panel, R-sport ECU, Ktec stealth, brain removed before going on track, and no mechanical sympathy or fear of breaching limits whatsoever :D
No real, if any material gains over standard...certainly doesn't feel any quicker than it used to...just a little more responsive...it's always been...
Indeed it does look impressive (providing he was really pushing it of course).
I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on one at Brands in August - I reckon it might surprise a few people...
Yep, he was, hit a few apexes ok, but had really strange lines elsewhere.
What surprised me was the run, at about 1:30 in, down the 1km back straight...I didn't get particularly good drive out of Bank (hooked 3rd too soon), but he was coming back to me 2/3 of the way down...maybe his car was...
Are you confusing grip with handling?
Tyres affect grip levels...but only altering the balance of grip available from front to rear could you say they affect handling.
I think the Cup handles really well, sure it rolls a huge amount when you really load it up in a turn, but that emphasises...
Another one missing the point completely...ABS does not stop you quicker, it allows you to maintain steering control if you've mashed the pedal so hard you'd have locked up. That's all it does.
But my post showed that 172 Cups, put out more power (proven), and weigh less (proven)...quod erat demonstrandum...they are faster (only very slightly on the road where it makes no difference anyway, and quite considerably faster on track). FACT.
No one yet has shown anything that disproves...
I think the lightness at the back helps hugely, keeps understeer in check, helps the car rotate on entry, and generally lets you know what's going on.
I've found that so long as you don't do anything foolish to unbalance the car, it moves about, but never really threatens, just kind of wags...
But that is EXACTLY my point.
The facts are clear (and I've not seen any evidence to the contrary yet), move on...ban/delete any threads that turn into slanging matches beacause it doesn't matter and we all look like stupid c***s to the rest of the net.
BenR or AndyGDI or Mike or Alex care...
