I'm pretty sure its just the crank because a 2l crank in a valver block will give you a 2l engine. iirc one of the best combos is a valver head with a 2l megane bottom end because of the valver cams being a little more wild than the F7Rs. If the bore was different you wouldn't be able to do that.

The bore between the F7P and F7R are the same, the F7R has a longer stroke crank so take it to 2.0l.

Its probably not that bad for cruising about, but its just not anything like a Mk2 really. They've improved alot but lost some, well quite a bit of the stuff that made the Mk2 good.
