172 PH 1 accelerator cable snap ... replace tips

The non-Renault throttle cables are not as good as the genuine ones - the one I replaced on mine didn't have a rubber sheath all the way down the cable and this is what I think caused it to be "sticky". The genuine Renault one is worth that bit extra as it is covered all the way which will stop...

    The PH1 172 Appreciation Thread.

Is everybody selling Odessey blue Ph1's now??!! That's at least four I have seen for sale in the past few weeks! I even went to look at one, but needed too much work for my current situation - aka mother didn't want another broken car sat on the drive for weeks while the engine was replaced...

    Kit's Ph1 172

Not much has been done these past few weeks apart from drive it to and from work. The commute to the new job is so much nicer than the old one, that was like rally driving. Have made some purchases..... These wheels. Utter bargain at £307 from £624 and the are new!!!! I have only know two...

    Flamer ph1 track project

Front splitter = need for mine!! It certainly looks the part this does. I sort of refuse to look at my sills in the argument if I can't / haven't seen any rust then it's not there!! But at least you are not breaking it and keeping it going, as that annoys me loads. But it does help to push...

    DIY service book.

I have kept all of the receipts of the items I I've purchased and wrote mileage (to the nearest thousand) and date on them. The pile of paper work is getting big!! The only thing I don't have a receipts for brakes from George RTR from over the summer. But fonon my project thread and it details...

    Ph1 rear bumper badge

I took my badges off last year tonpaint them black. I was under the impression the Renault Sport one was stuck on with no pins so I was going to replace it with a sticker. However, the Renault part of mine had pins and the Sport bit didn't. Such a ball ache. So i have a feeling it depends what...

    Dephaser Problems?

Ahh I didn't know you could swap without replacing the belt. But without proof I would be tempted for a new one Yeah, another Ph1 and ideally not in silver close to OEM as possible and close to be as possible. This one is Odessey blue and looks in good condition with some service history. Not...

    Dephaser Problems?

That is probably what he said! He unpluged/removed something and it stopped knocking. But its a new cam belt too isn't it if the dephaser is raplaced? Just want to know as I have an overall budget for a car and willing to get work done if I can get it for the right price. Just found out the...

    Matt's PH1 172 Restoration Project

This will soon need an adult rating as it is verging on porography. I like it a lot. It is nice to see someone love a Ph1 and keep it standard (my next Ph1 will be kept standard!!).

    Dephaser Problems?

I am not too clued up on the workings of the dephaser, I was just quoting what he said. Is he talking trash? Or it could have been a switch or something come to think of it! Sorry, old age memory problems are hitting me far too early!!

    Dephaser Problems?

I am going to look at another Ph1 172 tomorrow night as a possible daily car, and the seller has said the depasher is on the way out. He described the issue as when the engine is up to temperature there is a knocking noise, and if he removes the oil pipe that feeds the depasher the knocking...

    Ads 172 Track/Race car

That's a nice cage. A cage for mine is on the list for things to do before I waste money on my engine. Do you have a link to the cage? Just trying to get options as I would like front protection too instead of just a half rear cage

How does the choke work on a Ph1 172

I will have two now and I am more comofrtble/confident to take one apart to see how it works to replace parts. Glad its not choke related though. Just wondered how it worked too to try and eliminate problems

How does the choke work on a Ph1 172

Brand new cable fitted last week so confident it's not that. Plus does it when actuated by hand. TB was also cleaned last week when when I had it off If the choke is controlled by fueling and not something moving/mechanical then I am confident the TB is at fault.

How does the choke work on a Ph1 172

I know how a choke works on an engine! But how does the one on a Ph1 172 operate? Is it like done through the ECU/timing/fuelling? Or is there something mechanical moving something? Only asking as I am trying to eliminate problems with my sticky throttle. Cleaned all up and it still is sticky...

Ph1 Throttle Cable Replacement...help and advice

Blimey that's a big job! I'm sure I have the ability to do this on a second one so I don't c**k the one which sort of works up resndering the car useless for a while! I've just been out in the car after a few hours of the oil soaking and it's improved quite a lot, just appears that the throttle...

Ph1 Throttle Cable Replacement...help and advice

Also I have just found out it will only not return to the stop when the car is running. If the car is off the mechanism goes back to the stop regardless how gentle you move it. This is just confusing!?! It is as if the air moving past it is holding it open slightly. I did damage the clip on the...

Ph1 Throttle Cable Replacement...help and advice

Ok throttle is still a bit hit and miss. I don't think there is an air leak as it will idle at under 1000rpm when warm. But if you are on the throttle holding at 30mph and then lift off the revs don't die down. But then if you blip the throttle with the clutch down it idled fine. Had a quick...

Ph1 Throttle Cable Replacement...help and advice

People might read this thread in the future so I thought it would be an idea to add a little more after changing the throttle cable again today. When I first changed it in January it was quite fiddle to get to everything at the bulk head, probably the reason why it took a bit of time. Just...

FAO All Ph1 172 Owners -Throttle

I read this thread a while back when I changed my throttle cable for the first time and was useful for pointers. Had to change it again today as it was damaged (damn garage breaking it :rage:). Throttle cable changed  Was really simple, mainly as I knew what OI was doing after only changing it in January and I had the brilliant idea of removing the inlet to give me loads more room!!! BeSt harness mounting points 172

My freind had buckets with normal seat belts in his old BMW, worked fine when I was in it. I also think he has the same set up in his current car, or at least the drivers seat. No pics sorry, mainly as that car is now sat in my garage with different bucket seats and harnesses! What's the...

    Kit's Ph1 172

Also booked Cadwell Park for the 4th December with a few friends. One has a 182 and the other a Mk1 MX5. Hopefully will be quicker than the 182 as it is pretty much standard, but I am quite conservative in the braking zones as I don't want a crumpeled car! So we will see.
