Ok , surprised that the motorsport boys haven't been on here to give you some guidance but looking at the figures you have now i can't see an issue with it as a standard setup .
i would suggest the front tyres will make a difference to the braking stability , and what they have told you about...
we debated long and hard , no aircon in a cup was a big no no , as if in reality you actually spend a couple of hours a day in the car then there is a good chance its essential , liked the cup look and lightness ,have to agree the interior is poor , however the 172 interior isn't huge amounts...
drove it home , 38mpg , and that not hanging about (amazed as used to 20mpg V8) the squiet stealth from Ktec is exactly that , car drives really nice and sharp , and overall really pleased , and yes i have ended up with a total bargain .
Will take some pics when i pick it up later this afternoon , next on the agenda is finding some turini's as a spare set , and getting the originals refurbished , any recommendations on that in the surrey area gratefully received , would prefer to get them stripped and powdercoated .
the...
After purchasing our 172 about a month ago which we knew had a fault with the engine cutting out, the car was dropped off at Westbourne Motorsport . Now this was the 49k 172 that appeared on pistonheads for £1500 as the owner didn't have time to fix the fault and his garage had already failed to...
Why did he say what i wanted to say !! (he'll also work out who i am as well soon ;) ) but if i gave you my rotax max on fresh rubber and asked you to complete 10 lap and said we will let you be 3 seconds off a race pace ..... then , tell me when your clio turned in and had so much grip it...
Car forums are the same the world over , there is always someone who knows everything , there is always someone who spends more , there is always someone who likes to pick fights and wind people up , and the circle goes round again .
People always claim that their forum is the best , there car...
43 , had both Mk1 and Mk2 5 turbos in my 20's , owned most hot hatches that have been any good , only a few years ago got rid of our 205 1.9 gti having had it 4 years and sold it for nearly twice what we paid for it
Decided to have a 172 cup as a runabout to add to our fleet of Audi S4 cab ...

humm now lets hope i retain my legendary petrolheadness, not here but around other forums ,and i recon thats an FSO polonez. It is basically another eastern european fiat based on the old fiat strada ?
The caravan might be a bailey, but i think thats pushing it down the road of knowing to much...
If the t1r's are as bad as people are saying then i wouldn't want it that way round , yes the new rubber on the front is better if the backs not really s**t , but people have commented on how bad they are .... and not everyone is a driving god .
Jack if you fitting conti's and leaving the 2 T1r's on the back will you do me a favour and just fit them on the front till they wear !! please .
a car with a bit of understeer is far better in most road situations than a car with oversteer because the rears have alot less grip than the front ...
trouble is i know people who on much lighter cars than the clio sprint using the t1r's , now i know they are soft so that suits sprints , and maybe on a lighter car awork well , but it just shows how a brand can differ from car to car .....
when we had the 205gti we stuck some yoko advan...
we were looking at 197's alot recently before buying what we have , from what i can see
F1's have the cup pack plus recaro's
then you have the normal 197 which has the normal sport seats but may have had the cup pack fitted
then normal without cup pack ,
then a cup
cups have no aircon...
Stu , what for ? , what car ? clio i assume , what use? ,when summer or winter , hows your car set up ? ,you see stu it will depend , the comment further up about getting what you pay for is often (not always ) very very true .
It was more though provoking rather than giving you an answer , but...
Now being one of the older sorts on here ,and also a newcomer to the clio fold , i see patterns emerging re tyres . This happens time and again and was picked up on in a thread i saw last night .
Now the example last night was TOYO R888's ..... these seemed to come up as a best track day tyre ...
Tony i have to say i think Yoko 48r's are a much nicer tyre than the 888's ,
however i suspect the 888 are cheaper , in recent track tests the 48's came out much better value for money
i also fancy trying khumo V70a's which are rated very well by those i know who use them .
Just a word of warning , get that chip in the windscreen fixed before it cracks and needs replacing .
Just noticed when getting quotes that the wording of any previous claims has been changed and they now ask about glass claims !! this was asked by 3 insurers in the last week , and it seemed to...
How noisy is a standard exhaust , ? picked up the 172 last night and at 4k the drone is so bad i think earplugs would help .... (ok maybe i am being a wuss but i have owned quieter racecars )
its isn't quiet outside but not as noisy as in ,and when i stick my head down by the backbox its quiet...
nope Gary , this one went on pistonheads yesterday , and i just mailed him last night and said i would have it , i know the owner though have never seen the car , it has a slight issue but i am friends with the team manager/owner of westbourne motorsport the clio cup team so if it needs sorting...
interesting on the fuel economy comment , what are you seeing from a 172 ? (currently shes using our S4 cabriolet , so 4.2 V8 isn't exactly economical .
after much debating and your advice , on all things clio , we didn't buy a 197 ...... we didn't buy a 200, we didn't even give in to madness and buy a matte grey raider (although it came close)
we have though bought unseen ( i do know the man that's selling it ) the 49k 172cup (53 plate with...
