exhaust drone

How noisy is a standard exhaust , ? picked up the 172 last night and at 4k the drone is so bad i think earplugs would help .... (ok maybe i am being a wuss but i have owned quieter racecars )

its isn't quiet outside but not as noisy as in ,and when i stick my head down by the backbox its quiet boomy , could it just be the packing is gone in the backbox (original i think) its had a centre section not that long ago and i can't really see it blowing .


maybe just stick a standard backbox on , it makes our miltek equipped S4 sound whisper quiet , or it might be i have forgotten what french tin cans sound like .

Sounds like it's knackered tbh, standard 172 exhausts are meant to be quiet in comparison to an aftermarket exhaust.


Forgive me for asking but are you sure it's a standard exhaust?
This one's off a 182 but the backbox design is the same.

Standard exhauts should't really drone.

Mine isn't exactly whisper-quiet but it's not an annoyance either

looking at the back box design it does not look like that , i will take a pic , however neither is it stainless
