They start to whine as first gear rubs on the crownwheel. They then just become a ticking time bomb. I’d imagine it’ll need a new mainshaft looking at the damage there mate.

That’s what I did as well. Lol!

Those bolts are properly FT mate, so the copper/aluminium won’t grip the splines enough, even with heat applied.

Apply heat using a hot air blower to the hollow bolt and you’ll be able to hold it in a vice without damaging the splines.

Only way to stop that happening is to replace 1st and 2nd gear with the updated kit @ around £250. Replaces the gears, synchros and selector hub. Also does away with that spring.

Loads of reasons mate tbh. Oil pressure is one of the biggest reasons. And I’m being f4r specific here. They’re dire unless you put some work into the pump/clearances etc etc.

Any noises when it cut out? Or just the lights on the dash and engine cut out?

I’ll be honest, it doesn’t sound like it’s got much compression on one or more cylinders, but the video is a bit to short to be certain.

Well there’s certainly zero f***s given about trading paint in that race series is there!! There were loads of opportunities to spin a few competitors out, and I definitely would’ve been that guy! 😂😂 That may well be because I used to do banger racing though. 😂

Yeah as above you need a Clio 172/182 aux belt pulley.

They’re about 34mm off the top of my head mate.

Nope no suspension removed mate. It’s literally a case of dropping the diff, popping the shafts and out they come. I work with a lad who can have an N47 engine out in 45 minutes. Lol!

undo the propshaft nut, unbolt the diff with a stand underneath and lower it a little. Pop the shafts out the diff and lower it more. One shaft has to come out first (can’t remember which side!) and remove the other shaft. Out she comes! yeah there or thereabouts mate. But that’s probably...

Same thing happened to me with the AG mate. Knowing what was coming also meant I knew I wouldn’t have time to keep faffing with my mk2 either. It’s a shame to see the ad, but I can fully understand your reasons why. GLWTS. 👍🏻

@MarkCup that was interesting to see how he removed the diff! We don’t do it like that at work, and I can have one out in about 15 mins if I get a wriggle on. Might try it the way he did it to see if it’s any quicker. Lol

If you get the box out and send it to me, I can strip it, rebuild it and supply and fit the bolt in plate to stop the failure happening again. 👍🏻
