Open your bonnet, get someone to run the engine up to around 4500rpm. Youll hear a really loud rattle coming from behind the engine - you cannot possibly miss it. If you dont get this you dont have the rattle. The tink tink noise is just contraction - its normal.

You can use a Cup splitter, a few people have done this. K-tec reckon theyll have a carbon fibre one available in the next few weeks, and itll be cheaper than the plastic Cup item. heres the Cup splitter on Paddys 172:

Youre right about the wine. Its a bit like the people who invented the C language. They only did it for a joke, and they knew theyd got it right when they got a clean compile out of /?&&&& %%%$lib.ext :confused:
I got a local garage to fit them - cost £40. No need for camber bolts, but you do need to correct the wheel alignment. Any tyre centre can do this for you. It should cost less than £30.
This is a really common problem - there have been a few threads in the past. As long as it starts at the second attempt it seems to be one of those 172 features. Shouldnt take more than 2 goes though.
Im wondering whether the standard springs are a bit soft. I dont get this problem but I have Eibachs fitted. Although theyre a tad lower they get progressively harder as they are compressed - maybe this limits the travel of the wheel therefore preventing scrubbing.

As you can see from the pics both tailpipes look fine. If you favour the oval then get it - who cares what your mate says? Get the full system too not just the backbox.
Do you know what offset the wheels are Hannah? And, are the tyres 205/40/17?
<edit> are the springs on the car standard, or is it lowered at all?
