The whining on startup is not related to the dephaser. I had a knackered dephaser but it never made a noise on startup. Only when it was warm i could hear the dephaser. I think the whining is the pas pump. Mine makes exactly the same noise on a cold start and dissapears after 30seconds or so...

You would be surprised what colours you can get with vinyl. Anthracite is an actual colour you can get off the shelf vinyl in. Plus you can match any paint colour, but you've just got to pay the extra for it.

Yes but getting another spoiler then painting, getting wheels painted anthracite. Then a splitter on top. Plus some better springs etc (leaving out the hubs and slightly wider track) to effectively turn it into a FF. surely this is going to cost more than just buying a FF in the first place.
