you DO need them if its a normal clio (ie not a 172/182) if you do it the way yo describe the shock will rip the CV gaitor in half- Fred@BTM

die grinder will do it, grind the head off them, i do it that way when the sump comes off you can just spin the remainder of the stud out- Fred@BTM

Difference in Track
172 cup is (off the top of my head) 20mm + front and 10mm+ rear (possibly the otherway round) Vs a stock 172 it wasn't just wheel offset as a lot of people think!- Fred@BTM
