The rule is supposed to be 1 over focal length ie at 300mm you should be not at more than 1/300, 200mm - 1/200. But most this does not seem to apply in M/sport photog. Practice makes perfect - one day 1/80 pans will seem easy - I hope!

For me all depends on the focal length and type of shot. Side on pans with the light 70-200 are east at 1/100 - 1/200. Heavier 300 mm rarely under 1/320.

No - Wet is one thing, snow is another, F1s and Toyo T1S fill up with snow in the due to the V shaped tread pattern and give no traction at all.
