Just downloaded some of those foreign clio/williams videos and feck me - those cup willys/valvers are well low!
Now ive be told that going much lower than 40mm or so will mess with the handling but surely not if they used to race with lower? Does anyone know whats best or have experience of...
That clio stays not far from my folks house and tbh it looks w4nk in real life with all that sh*t bolted to it. If you really want to upgrade the styling keep it subtle (ie parts from a higher model) because unless youve got the cash to do it properly in one go, it just ends up looking bad...
Are the 19 16V flywheels the same as the clios? I want to assemble some parts for a project next year and can get a 19 16v flywheel cheaply for the exchange till then....
Hmmmm.....if your car has the more rounder lights as in the one below then that bonnet wont fit. However, the one beloe has a Renault 19 16V vent molded in. Very nice IMO and a good alternative.....

If you have the same lights as the picture the bonnet will fit without any problem.
Beware the slang though!
1.8 16V = "Valver", 2.0 16V = Williams = "Willy". Both of these have identical body panels....
Use the tyres guide on this site matey!
FYI i think im on phase 1s with 195/50 - this matches the original diameter and gives a wider footprint. No adverse effects either.....cheeper too!
No - i meant ive got to pick it up from the scrappy and take it out to my folks house in the boot for my engine conversion!
Soz - should have been more clearer....
Cool! It was actually nick hill that mentioned the "small bodied williams starter" - i assume he just meant a normal williams starter though as i take it they have more grunt to turn the 2ltr over than a 1.8 one does....
Might enquire at bb what the difference between the two are....
Wouldnt expect it to be that high - flooring it my 1.8 goes slightly over 3bar but then again i wouldnt put to much faith in the gauge itself!
Could be a combination of the oil grade and or maybe an old sensor? Either way i wouldnt think its a problem - if it was very low then id be more...
Going to start assembling parts for this in the new year and ive been told i need a small bodied williams starter motor. Question is, are these really that different to the 16v ones? I notice that BBs website list an OE replacement and a high output version (both willy compatiable) - would these...
Ive had my valver since febuary and my sister got a 172 shortly after. If youd asked me a few months ago, id have swapped her for the 172 any day as just about everything was going wrong with my car. However, you have to remember that the 16v/willys are about 11 years old so theres going to be...
PBVs dont really give a power increase on a perfect engine, they just make the car respond better by providing fuel faster than the OE regulator could.
The only reason people can claim an increase (on a rolling road) is because their engines were well worn beforehand - by installing the PBV...
Will do!
Im just waiting to get a cheapish secondhand head and manifold and then hopefully send it down to BenR off this site - he seems to be best VFM.....
Sounds like your cam followers - as these get old/used they loose the ability to pressurise quickly which explains why the "tappety" noise goes once the engine is warmed up. Nothing serious but as someone said an oil change might help a bit.
As for the price issue, well its worth what someone...
True but you can get turbo kits with decently mapped chip off the shelf so less p1ssing about with "computers and all that w**k!"
Still a serious bit of work like but less maintenance - throttle bodies need to be sychronised other wise cylinders can run lean lean while some dont etc....
A few people have done the megane 2ltr conversion on here as far as i know. I think basically you just bolt the megane bottom end on to the 1.8 16v head. You will need to use the 1.8 flywheel, get a williams starter (smaller bodied) and a suitable chip to enable the 1.8 ECU to work this...
Willy engines seem to be just shy of 1k and obviously mods (ie chip, cams and headwork) will be the same as for your valver.
FYI You could pick a 2ltr megane engine up for under 450 m8! Basically you could have its bottom end mated to your 1.8 head, the whole thing chiped and fitted properly...
Get a strong gearbox and clutch fitted for starters m8!
Its fairly simple to get them bolted on but the time (and money) comes from setting them up PROPERLY as you need a new computer to run them which needs mapped by someone professional - rolling road needed etc.
Aside from that you could...
Personally id go for number two but youve obviously been bitten by the 2ltr bug!
With this in mind stick a new box in (16v or willy one), then get a megane bottom end fitted later - this will be as fast as a willy lump, probably in better nick and a good bit cheaper (as you could sell the few...
yeah would look / sound sweet!
I suppose it depends on the power delivery though. Although throttle bodies might only gain about the same bhp and head/chip/cams, the torque increase might be more (i.e make it pull as good as a 2ltr from lower revs).
Dunno like!
