^generally when you've been welding long enough you can tell just by looking at it. you inspect to check the penetration is ok, look to see if there's any contamination (you've really fucked up if there is) a lot of it falls down to the prep work, if you look in the pictures you will see where 2...
out of interest what welding rods are you using and what welder?? (i'm a welding geek btw!)
i'm going shopping for a Lincon Electric inverter 205 (i think thats the model)
i'm just relaying what the parts database is saying! yoz had a few replacment screens on his cup, he just told them what car it was and they turned up and fitted a ff screen the next time round he told them it was a 1.2 16v (using my reg) and ta dar, normal screen
the ff cars have the heat reflective one with the clear patch and the auto lights/wipers bit
a cup windscreen is just off a base model
the side windows are thinner
good luck!
they're are 2 listed for 172 cup
pale green 7701066906
pale blue 7701066907
exactly the same part numbers as a 1.2 16V (without auto wipers/lights) the "lightweight windscreen" is a myth
SG, Rentech, AWT, Carlton or k-tec, i've seen the work from those lot, and it gets my approval! (i've seen the work from others too btw)
not a hard job, but bloody time consuming!
