Acidic wheel cleaners are fine for a one off deep clean of a car that's been hammered. I wouldn't (and don't!) use it on my pride and joy though. It will discolour your wheel valves, tarnish the wheel bolts, make your calipers rusty... Its nasty stuff. I use it at work for cars that haven't...

I've done it on every forecourt i've worked on since about 1999. Never seen a windscreen crack. There is a big difference between luke warm water and hot water.
