noise from the aux belt area will be the idler pulley more than likely, it sound to me as if they've changed the belt, not the entire aux belt kit (tensioner, idler pulley etc)
if it snaps, then theres a 90% chance it gets sucked into the cambelt and ruins the engine
but it sounds like you have some sort of sensor problem
2nd lambda sensor has nothing to do with the engine not running, BUT damage to the cable can cause the engine to shut down

182 cat is a restriction, if you can't notice a difference (quite a noticable one) with a decat fitted you need your head checking! LOL
there's a plastic sump cover with a large round cover/plug in the middle, either remove that or remove the 4 x 10mm bolts holt the gaurd up
you'll need an 8mm square sump socket to check the plug
