13mm socket, down to an 11mm socket (it had rusted that badly) a hammer, a dolly, removed the whole rear beam and still it wouldn't come off.
Thankfully, the engine was out so we cut the downpipe off with a plasma cutter and pulled the whole lot out from the back then dismantled it on the...
I just removed an exhaust today on the floor using axle stands and its a tw*t of a job and that was with no rear beam on the car!
For the sake of £20-£30 i'd rather pay to get it done.
You're 100% making the right decision Gaz.
IT takes a rEdiculous amount of time to get a car to a decent level when its that far gone. I was on the verge of doing the same to my valver due to rust but thankfully Chris' old shell came up so i'm going down that route.
That was the hardest part! Putting it all back in is a piece of piss. The roll cage, stripping/prepping/painting/masking/painting/masking/painting/masking/painting then laquering the whole lot was the biggest job!
When you say ''hours of welding'' do you mean just a bare prep'd shell and literally just welding time, or do you mean standard car; remove stuff; mock up cage; various jiggery pokery; re-mock up cage; more jiggery pokery; then weld cage.
The engines in, seats are in, all suspension is on....
But its in the darkets dirtiest workshop known to man. I'm down there all day tomorrow so may manage to get a pic or two.
For £80 I couldn't give a fcuk if they guarantee them for a day or a year.
Just look at cotballs (is that a real name?) anthracite turinis ffs! They look mint for £80 a set. Thats unreal value for money.
Are you removing the seat and taking it to them? If so, £45 is a bit dear. I'd have said under £20 to get a bit touched up.
If they're removing the seat, then they need to be paid for their time.
If you want something that loves to be revved high, handles like a gokart (in comparison to a gti) and bumps along down a back road, get a clio.
If you want something a bit more grown up, is cheap to extract power out of and is more of a cruiser, buy a golf.
Like the man above says, best...
I tried it in a customers car once and gave up trying. I didn't want to risk damaging the car or the tailgate. If it was mine, i'd have pushed harder! lol.
I'm pretty confident it can't be done though.
Don't replace brakes unless they are in need of replacing or you plan on doing lots of track work. Throwing your money away otherwise.
Polybush the whole front end, engine mounts, ball joints and new shocks/springs will make the car feel like a brand new one.
Oil & filter/plugs/air...
