ai its all about power to weight, mines 855kg and 192 bhp = 224bhp per ton. so its not shy
for comparison a standard 225 is 1335kg and 225bhp = 168bph per ton
unless you have very deep pockets you won't beat a well setup clio imo, so unfortunately 4k really isn't going to cut it as an upgrade budget.
I'd sink the 4k into the clio once you are familiar with it and find its weak points. starting with tyres, diff, brakes, suspension. it'll be more...

as above, the hole in the box is the same, the speed sensor for the 172 cup is plugged into the same mechanical drive slot as the earlier gearboxes where the cable goes.

they're not in perfect nick, but a small repair on the drivers bolster and good scrub and they'll do for me! correct 182 fit ones as well with rear access still available, straight bolt in and half leather, so...
i'd be removing the lot, sourcing good used replacements and replacing the full aux belt system. no idea whats happened there but with everything replaced for good used and new then should be sorted

If it's not had a full suspension and steering refresh yet then I'd recommend that to steer the car in the right direction..... Sorry!
So every bush and joint/bearing up front ideally would want replacing to restore the original feel of the car.
