Electronic power steering, the mk2 dci's had it and can bolt it onto 1*2's
Means simplified under the bonnet setup and one less system to piss fluid out.
Not sure on weight saving, may be a little but the epas motorised column is pretty heavy
Quick update, pictureless but full of entertainment!
So decided to insure the phase 1 other day, added it to my adminral cover on the 182 for the princely sum of 130 quid to novemeber when the renewal on both will then be due. Taxed it on the pay later monthly scheme and sorted! Blumming 283 a...

Sort of agree, I prefer the phase 1 front end and less colour coding but the rear is not quite on par with the later car. Thinking of fitting a cup spoiler to add a bit of aggression!
no way I would leave the sills as they are, it'd bug the hell out of me, not to mention devalue the car as first place anyone looks on the old clios is the sills! for a stock oem restoration i'd have to get that repair flushed!
great plans for the car though, should be lovely when done!

It'll be reet for short journeys, just keep eagle eye on the fluid level in tank and don't rev the tits off it. As you say if you can avoid using it until it's fixed do so but knowing lads in fire service your usually within few miles of station so it'll make that trip if needed
trying not to as supposed to be sorting my track car, but my mind is constantly thinking, so...... in no particular order:
- flocked top dash
- cup shocks all round and new top mounts
- engine cover in Odyssey
- aluminium bonnet
- cup spoiler
- snappy steering wheel retrim
Did some more bits to the car today and rolled up to the end of the lane to get a couple of slightly better pics than those in my project thread.
Cleans up okay and although I was keeping it standard..........I haven't, had to stick my mark on it :smile:

Preaching to the converted as mentioned!!lol! Bought a lovely, standard and original (ish) 172 Phase 1 few weeks back, its since had man logic firmly applied to it and I love it!lol!
i tried to run my old 172 on normal BP 95 RON and it used to splutter and loose power all over the shop, on the Ultimate it was fine, so since then for the sake of 2 quid a tank or whatever it works out at, I've always run my F4R engines on some form of Super unleaded, be it Shell, BP, Tesco...
Great write up and truly lovely looking car, in some ways it's a shame you modded it at all. Even down to the bulbs. But if I did mention that it would be very much pots and kettles so I'll stay quiet :-)

when you say you use the X5 mop thing, does it come with a bunch of accessories to get to the harder to reach bits or you just using the shoot some steam at the fecker technique for areas like the boot shut etc?
engines require big money to gain anything tangeable really, best bet is just chuck a stainless exhaust on, decent panel filter in the airbox and RSTuner map it to get her running healthy and pretty much stock power (they always run lower than book tbh)
cooksport or eibach sportline springs are...
you've already covered it in the question, replace top mounts with ones in link below, and add a standard 172 front lower gearbox mount
