Ideally yeah but as long as you don't destroy it don't worry.
Has the engine bay been cleaned at all? If its still filthy dirty then chances are something (Plugs/leads/coilpack) will need replacing rather than just water ingress.
If you've bought it from a dealer its probably wet plugs from them steam cleaning the engine bay.
Remove inlet, plugs and leads, dry them out, wd40 everything then put it all back together.
When I had my first car, I put the front number plate on using some wood screws I found in my dads shed and they were about 4 inches long.
Straight through bumper, straight through radiator.

I couldn't find one in the end in the spec I wanted so I bought a 320d coupe instead.
You just need the Paralell wheels to finish it off now ;)
I bought a written off 172.
I then took the engine, box, driveshafts, brake calipers, discs, hubs, radiator etc all out of the 172.
It all bolts straight in.
Wiring loom needs to be made yourself. (I cheated and bought one off another member)
You'll need a different alternator bracket...
