    No matter which way round i put the spacer i get this? its as though the disc won't go on enough with the spacer there (piston is all the way in and not touching anything) I've got renault discs, do they already have the spacer built in? confused!

    Mis-firing Cylinder 3

    I had an intermittant misfire on mine and it turned out to be a dodgy injector...(changed the coil pack and leads prior to the injector)

    I got pulled over and fined for not having the correct spacing (G4V JX) but he didnt even mention the size of the front plate, suppose it depends on the copper.

    My 3.9 v8 Mgb is cheaper to tax than my 172..... But can't say it bothers me to much as split over the year its not that expensive - dare say if you could do it on monthly installments people wouldn't moan half as much...

    Another point, i have taken both my golf and phase 1 172 to to the nurburgring, guess which one broke down and i had to get recovered? the 172 when the crank sensor failed so it wouldnt start. Also the Golf is far easier to work on imo and cheaper, cambelt is a diy job, bearings are taper...

    Well i got the top and side free, but really struggled with the bottom edge y the scuttle and so just tried levering it forward and crack, probably didn't help it was so cold though - i should have probably invested in windscreen removal tool off ebay...live and learn i guess.

    To be honest I used to get excited about getting in the 172 even it was just popping to the shops, now i enjoy driving the other halfs micra! as an upgrade from the diesel....As for the phase 1 it needs a windscreen (huge crack), two tyres and a battery so not to bad.

    Cheers guys good to see some real life actual figures, anything above 35 i can live with. So decision made the phase 1 will be hitting the road asap after 19 months of not moving....It will be nice to get to some meets again, although the dreaded cambelt/dephaser is coming up...

    I am currently doing about 2000 miles a month, so took my 172 off the road and using my trusty Pug 106 diesel and getting around 60mpg BUT i'm sick to death of it, very slow, noisy etc....price you pay for economy i suppose! I have 2 172's, a phase 1 and phase 2 in storage both sitting around...

    Rear brake sensing load valve

    The cup does have one, i had to replace the one on my bro's 2002 Cup....it had seized up and wasn't letting any fluid through to the rear brake lines. Dealer price around £140 if i remember right for a bias valve, we ended up getting a used one. Not sure what the trophy set up is though...

    People don't understand me at work, basically i have got a phase 1 172 and phase 2 172 and an MGB V8 and what do i choose to drive for work? a £320 pug 106 diesel...cheap as chips to run, super reliable (had it on the road for 16months so far) insurance is £18 a month fully comp with business...

    Spark plugs changed now idle is all over the place :-s

    Try just tightening the bolts on the inlet, you have prob left a couple slightly loose, i forgot to pinch up the two by the coil pack and it caused the above problems.

    I had a full respray on my phase 2 and to be fair i regret sticking to the standard colour, was a good opportunity to do something a bit different. Just make sure you get the engine bay done aswell :)

    PH1 Stays accelerated

    Check for an air leak on your inlet manifold, this can screw up the revs at idle. Last time I changed my pluGs i got distracted and didn't pinch it all up as tight as i should of and suffered with it sticking at high revs...

    Watch your eyes, mine was still pretty pressurised and it did squirt out quite a bit!
