Buy the iPhone from Apple and unlock it instead and get the best of both worlds. If you buy from Apple you do not signup for any contract until you activate the handset from home using iTunes, exactly the same way that people are unlocking them in the US.

No problems with 02 signal in Edinburgh or most other Scottish locations I've visited.

Yes o2 rolled EDGE out onto the network last month. 30% coverage and counting by launch so a long way to go yet.

Unlimited data on all tariffs £35, £45 & £55 Visual voicemail available as is EDGE. No 3G. o2 have also created a agreement for 7500 WiFi hotspots around the UK via Cloud. These are free. Oh and as feared it is a 18 month contract :(

Several good phones are ruined by customised Orange firmware.

Lidl sell a HDMI cable for £5 which works perfectly.

If you have a memory card in the phone then goto the application for it (Tools/Memory/Options) and you can backup the phone there. You don't need to worry about over the air, update it using the supplied cable.

No the iPod Touch is basically the iPhone but minus the phone functions.
